UNPRI Hosts Health Talk in Commemoration of World AIDS Day to Strengthen Evidence-Based Education on HIV/AIDS Prevention
Strengthening Public Health Literacy through Scientific Education and Evidence-Based Approaches in HIV/AIDS Prevention Efforts
Medan — Universitas Prima Indonesia (UNPRI), through its Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Dentistry, and Faculty of Health Sciences, organized a Health Talk Seminar to commemorate World AIDS Day on Saturday (13/12/2025). The event took place at the Main Hall on the 10th Floor of UNPRI and was attended by students, healthcare professionals, and the UNPRI academic community.
Carrying the theme “Act Aware: Prevention Starts With Education”, this seminar emphasized the importance of science-based education as the primary foundation for preventing HIV/AIDS and Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs). UNPRI believes that improving health literacy is a strategic key to reducing stigma while strengthening promotive and preventive efforts in society.
The seminar featured two competent speakers, Dr. Djohan, SpDVE, M.Ked(DV), FINSDV, FAADV, and dr. Apriani Margastutie, who presented comprehensive, evidence-based scientific material. Dr. Djohan explained the latest approaches through Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) as an evidence-based medical strategy relevant to current HIV control.
The seminar covered transmission mechanisms, risk factors, and the principles of antiretroviral (ARV) treatment. Special emphasis was placed on the fact that effective ARV therapy not only improves the quality of life for people living with HIV but also plays a significant role in lowering the risk of transmission. Meanwhile, dr. Apriani Margastutie explained the close relationship between HIV and STIs such as syphilis and gonorrhea as indicators of both biological and behavioral risk.
The Dean of the UNPRI Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry (FKKG), Prof. Dr. dr. H. Gusbakti Rusip, M.Sc., Sp.KKLP., Subsp.FOMC(K)., PKK., AIFM., AIFO-K., stated that this activity is part of UNPRI's commitment to strengthening the role of universities as centers for evidence-based health education. “Universities have a moral and academic responsibility to provide comprehensive, scientific, and stigma-free health education,” he said.
Through this activity, UNPRI reaffirms its support for the Three Zero 2030 target: zero new infections, zero AIDS-related deaths, and zero discrimination. This step is also aligned with efforts to achieve SDGs 4, SDGs 9, SDGs 17 in creating a healthy and educated society.
