UNPRI, Indonesia’s Top Medical Campus, Makes National History as the First Private University to Organize a Surgical Specialist Program (PPDS Bedah)
UNPRI’s Real Contribution to the Development of Surgical Specialists in Indonesia
UNPRI, Medan – Universitas Prima Indonesia (UNPRI) has once again made history in national medical education by launching the Surgery Specialist Education Program (PPDS Bedah). This achievement marks UNPRI as the first Private Higher Education Institution (PTS) in Indonesia to organize this strategic program, solidifying its dominance in specialist education in the country.
The opening of UNPRI's Surgery Residency has obtained an operational license based on the Decree of the Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia Number 1178/B/O/2025. With the addition of this program, UNPRI now manages a total of eight active Specialist (PPDS) programs:
- Primary Care Family Medicine
- Radiology
- Ophthalmology (Eye Health)
- Cardiology and Vascular Medicine
- Obstetrics and Gynecology (Obgyn)
- Anesthesiology
- Internal Medicine
- Surgery (Latest)
The Rector of UNPRI, Prof. Dr. Chrismis Novalinda Ginting, AIFO-K, expressed deep gratitude, stating that the opening of the Surgery program is the result of the collective work of the FKKG UNPRI academic community under the leadership of Dean Prof. Dr. dr. H. Gusbakti Rusip. "Doctors in Indonesia now have a new option to pursue surgery specialist education at UNPRI," she said with high optimism.
The excellence of the Surgery Residency at UNPRI is supported by the integration of its own comprehensive healthcare facilities, including RSU Royal Prima Medan, RSU Royal Prima Marelan, RS Mata Prima Vision, RS Gigi dan Mulut Prima, and RSU Royal Prima Jambi. This integration ensures that clinical practice education runs optimally and is standardized according to the recommendations of the Indonesian College of Surgery.
This achievement further strengthens UNPRI's position, which previously earned International Accreditation from IAAHEH for its Medical Doctor and Medical Professional programs. This step aligns with the university's commitment to supporting SDGs 4, SDGs 9, SDGs 17 to create professional healthcare workers with global competitiveness.
