UNPRI Makes History: Welcoming the First Batch of Psychologist Professional Education Students in Sumatra

UNPRI, Medan – The Faculty of Psychology at Universitas Prima Indonesia (UNPRI) officially held a welcoming ceremony for its new students of the Psychologist Professional Education Program. This historic momentum marks the opening of the first psychologist professional study program on the island of Sumatra, a major step for higher education in Indonesia.

The event was led directly by the Dean of the Faculty of Psychology, Dr. Sri Hartini, S.Psi., M.Si., on Monday (10/11/2025). Coinciding with National Heroes' Day, the ceremony reaffirmed UNPRI's commitment to providing high-quality professional education relevant to societal needs. Also in attendance were the Head of the Undergraduate Psychology Program, Beby Astri Tarigan, S.Psi., M.Psi., and the Head of the Psychologist Professional Education Program, Nurvica Sary P., S.Psi., M.Psi.

This inaugural batch consists of 12 students from various regional backgrounds, including Aceh, Pekanbaru, and Jakarta. This diversity reflects the high level of public trust in UNPRI as a leading national private university based on socio-technopreneurship.

In her speech, Dr. Sri Hartini expressed her gratitude for the support from the Foundation and the Rector of UNPRI, Prof. Dr. Chrismis Novalinda, M.Kes., AIFO-K. "Now, Psychology graduates in Sumatra no longer need to travel to Java to pursue professional education, as UNPRI has brought it here to Medan," she stated. The program is aligned with Law No. 23 of 2022 concerning Psychology Education and Services, where graduates will earn the title Psychologist (Psi.) with authority in promotive, preventive, and curative actions.

The addition of this program strengthens UNPRI's portfolio, which now boasts five professional education programs (Medical Doctor, Dentist, Nurse, Midwife, and Psychologist). This achievement makes UNPRI one of the private universities with the highest number of professional programs in Indonesia, particularly in North Sumatra. This strategic move is a concrete contribution toward SDGs 4, SDGs 9, SDGs 17 in creating superior and professional human resources.
