FK UNPRI HOLDS CHALLENGING SEMINAR IN ARTHROPLASTY REVISION
Of the Three Bone and Joint Surgery Specialists, One of Them is from Germany
A German bone and joint surgeon, A. Lois Franz, M.D., gave a presentation on "Challenging in Arthroplasty Revision" in front of students of the Faculty of Medicine (FK) Unpri and general practitioners at the Royal Prima Hospital, Jalan Ayahanda, Medan, on Friday, August 22, 2014.
The seminar was attended by the Advisor of the Prima Indonesia Higher Education Foundation, dr. I Nyoman Ehrich Lister, M.Kes., AIFM, Chairman of the Daily Executive Board of Universitas Prima Indonesia, Dr. Tommy Leonard, S.H., M.Kn., Advisor to Unpri, dr. Sofian Wijaya, M.H.A, Rector of Unpri Prof. dr. Djakobus Tarigan, AAI, DAAK, Vice Rector II, Ermi Girsang, SKM, M.Kes., Dean of FK Unpri, dr. H. Yulitas Bachtiar, Sp.A., Vice Dean III of FK Unpri, dr. Ali Napiah Nasution, general practitioners, and students of FK Unpri.
According to Franz, joint problems are common nowadays, sophisticated technology provides a way out to overcome problems with joints and joint surfaces, namely Arthroplasty.
Arthroplasty, said Franz, is replacing the damaged cartilage surface of the joint with an artificial knee joint surface (prosthesis).
He explained that the surface of the artificial joint is made of a material that will not be absorbed by the body and will not be rejected by the body. Artificial joints, among others, are made of metal to be attached to the bone and a plastic-like material for bone pads.
"The replacement begins with accurate joint measurements so that optimal results are obtained and it is hoped that the joint can move," he said.
Also present at the seminar were bone and joint surgery specialists from Columbia Asia Hospital, Dr. Adrian Khu, Sp.OT, and Rio Jansen Sitorus who discussed Rehabilitation Past Operation.
According to Dr. Adrian Khu, orthopedic surgery has now progressed, especially domestically.
"In the country itself, our orthopedic surgeons can and often perform joint or knee joint replacements and other things including ACL reconstruction. And this makes it easier for patients to receive treatment at a cost that is not too expensive, compared to if patients have to seek treatment abroad, because they have to go back and forth during treatment", said this friendly doctor convincingly.
In fact, said Dr. Adrian Khu, for this orthopedic surgery problem, not only doctors are given deeper knowledge, but bone fracture healers will also be given a kind of Workshop, so that they are more focused, so that patients do not become victims and patients will feel comfortable.
Dr. Adrian Khu said, there are many cases regarding this problem. One of the causes of the many cases is due to age factors, workload, obesity, or when sick patients often use random drugs, which causes damage to the bones.
So far, said Dr. Adrian Khu, an orthopedic surgeon in Medan, there are around 30 people. At Royal Prima Hospital on Jalan Ayahanda itself, there are already 4 orthopedic surgeons who are always on standby. Thus, patients do not need to seek treatment abroad.
Dr. Adrian Khu is sure that now many people already know so they do not have to go back and forth abroad for treatment. This means that our people already trust domestic doctors.
On the same occasion, the Dean of FK Unpri, dr. H. Yulitas Bachtiar, Sp.A., said that this seminar is important to increase the knowledge of FK Unpri students regarding Challenging in Arthosplasty Revision.
Yulitas said that currently many doctors are taking specialist bone and joint surgery. Because the science of bone surgery is now more advanced.
"With this seminar, it is expected that the participants who attend can absorb the knowledge provided by the speakers both from Medan itself and from abroad such as from Germany," said Yulitas.
In a separate place, Deputy Dean III of FK Unpri, dr. Ali Napiah Nasution, added that the purpose of this seminar is to increase knowledge, understanding for general practitioners and medical students and others, in handling joint problems, namely with Arthroplasty technology.
In addition, indirectly, the seminar participants will also be more motivated to know the development of current medical science, especially in the field of orthopedics.
