SUMATERA DEPUTY GOVERNOR INVITES STUDENTS TO PREPARE THEMSELVES TO FACE MEA 2015

The Deputy Governor of North Sumatra (Wagubsu), Ir. H. Tengku Erry Nuradi, M.Si., gave a public lecture at the Faculty of Economics (FE) of Universitas Prima Indonesia (Unpri) and invited students to prepare themselves to face the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) in 2015.
The presence of the Deputy Governor of North Sumatra to give a public lecture to FE Unpri students was welcomed by the Chairperson of the Prima Indonesia Higher Education Foundation, dr. In a public lecture with the theme "Development of Investment Realization in North Sumatra 2009-2013", the Deputy Governor of North Sumatra said that investment is one of the drivers of the economy of a region.
In North Sumatra, he said, there is extraordinary investment potential, there are many potentials in North Sumatra that can be developed, such as the second largest palm oil plantation in Indonesia, rubber, deli tobacco, chocolate, then the potential in the agricultural sector as a self-sufficient rice region, tourism potential, and others.
Universitas Prima Indonesia has also invested in education and hospitals to improve the quality of human resources and provide health services to the people of North Sumatra. This is one of the efforts to help the local government in improving development and improving the welfare of the community.
"We have good natural resources, we must also prepare human resources (HR) to be able to utilize the potential of these large natural resources. This is the use of students studying to improve the quality of HR. Moreover, it has been agreed long ago, in 2015 there will be a free market for the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC)," he said.
The Deputy Governor of North Sumatra said that later there will be no more restrictions, where Malaysians, Thais, Filipinos, Singaporeans and others may work in Indonesia, their doctors can open practices here.
"If they can provide better services, then the public will prefer to go there and we will only be spectators. Therefore, we must improve our human resources. So, students must prepare themselves by improving the quality of their human resources. If they do not want to learn, then they will be spectators at the 2015 MEA", he said.
In addition, he said, since the Kualanamu International Airport, the number of foreign tourist visits has increased by 15 percent. With the addition of these tourists, of course it can be an opportunity for students, especially the Faculty of Economics Unpri to create business opportunities that can be offered to foreign tourists.
"In the tourism sector, there are many creative economies that can be developed, so that can be an opportunity that can be utilized by FE Unpri students", he said.
In the public lecture, the Deputy Governor of North Sumatra also gave students and lecturers the opportunity to ask questions about investment developments in North Sumatra.
In fact, at the end of his public lecture, the Deputy Governor of North Sumatra delivered a pantun that reads:
