Deputy Governor of North Sumatra: Unpri Will Soon Become the Best University in Indonesia
The celebration of the 13th Anniversary of Universitas Prima Indonesia (Unpri) which was wrapped in an event called Unpri Fiesta 2014 held at the Regale Convention Center Building, Medan, Sunday (19/10), was very lively with an opening show of Drum Percussion Collaboration, Barongsai, and dances from various ethnicities from Sabang to Merauke. The excitement was even more felt at the peak of the Grand Final of the 2014 Mr and Ms Unpri Election.
In the 2014 Unpri Fiesta event with the theme 'Together with Unpri Towards Smart North Sumatra', awards were also presented to the Deputy Governor of North Sumatra (Wagubsu) Ir. H. T. Erry Nuradi, M.Si and the Mayor of Medan Drs. H. T. Dzulmi Eldin S, M.Si., as Figures Caring About Education in North Sumatra by the Head of Unpri Advisors dr. I Nyoman Ehrich Lister, M.Kes., AIFM accompanied by the Head of BPH Unpri DR. Tommy Leonard, S.H., M.Kn, and the Rector of Unpri Prof. Dr. Djakobus Tarigan. AAI., DAAK., Unpri Advisors dr. Sofian Wijaya, M.H.A., and Prof. Sanwani Nasution, S.H.
The excitement of the event was witnessed by thousands of new Unpri students for the 2014/2015 academic year, Unpri academics, and invited guests including members of the North Sumatra DPRD Brilian Moktar, S.E., M.M, Ikrimah Hamidy, S.T., M.M, Sopar Siburian, S.H., M.H., M.Kn, Secretary of the Coordinator of Kopertis Region I North Sumatra Drs. Rudy K Nababan, M.Si, member of the Medan DPRD Wong Chun Sen, S.E, Chairman of PSMTI North Sumatra Eddy Djuandi, Director of Royal Prima Hospital dr. Deli Theo, Sp.PK., Mars., Director of RSGM Unpri drg. Melissa Sim and others.
Deputy Governor of North Sumatra H.T. Erry Nuradi congratulated Unpri on its 13th anniversary and hoped that Unpri would be even better in the future. "Hopefully, in accordance with its name, Universitas Prima will become a truly excellent university in Indonesia and can achieve the highest achievements," he said.
He said that currently there are 20 top universities in Indonesia, among which are private universities that have been established for a long time and are well-known. "However, I am sure, under the good management of the Head of Unpri Advisors, dr. I Nyoman Ehrich Lister and the entire Unpri academic community, I am sure that it will not be too long before Unpri becomes the best university in Indonesia", said the Deputy Governor of North Sumatra, which was greeted with enthusiastic applause from the visitors.
Erry Nuradi said that next year it will enter the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC), namely entering the global competition of the ASEAN region, which is possible from abroad to enter to establish universities here. "Of course, existing domestic universities must be more prepared, don't let foreign universities be more in demand by the public, but we must be able to be masters in our own country", he said.
Therefore, Unpri, which already has 10 faculties and more than 8,000 students, as well as having a hospital and its facilities, must continue to improve its accreditation in various fields, so that all faculties get the best accreditation.
The Deputy Governor of North Sumatra, who has received various awards as a Figure Concerned with Education in North Sumatra, has a target to increase the community participation rate in obtaining higher education, namely the figure reaching 35 percent.
"If we talk about higher education, in North Sumatra the community participation rate in obtaining higher education has only reached 30.24 percent. However, we will continue to increase it to reach more than 35 percent. Therefore, I expect universities in North Sumatra, including Unpri, to be able to improve the quality of human resources of the North Sumatra community," said the Deputy Governor of North Sumatra.
Erry Nuradi also said that currently there are several district/city governments in North Sumatra, one of which is South Nias, which has entrusted 60 of its students to Unpri which is funded by the South Nias Regional Government. In fact, students at Unpri are not only from North Sumatra but also from Papua, even Timor Leste. He also hopes that the Medan City Government can provide scholarships to Medan City students both at Unpri and other universities in North Sumatra.
Pillars of Education Development
Meanwhile, Medan Mayor HT Dzulmi Eldin said that Unpri could be said to be a young university, but it has been quite well-known as a university with the best facilities and quality of education. "In the Anniversary 13th, I hope Unpri can become a pillar of strength in education and health development regionally and nationally. I also express my gratitude for the award as a Figure Concerned with Education”, he said.
He also expressed his appreciation for the Unpri Fiesta 2014 activity with the theme ‘Together with Unpri Towards Smart North Sumatra’. “I hope this activity can give birth to creativity and innovation to build North Sumatra, especially Medan City, which is increasingly Smart, Modern, Intelligent, Innovative, Creative and highly competitive with the support of information technology”, said the Mayor of Medan who always invites the younger generation to continue to develop their talents and always be creative and innovative in various fields.
Dzulmi Eldin said that Medan City is currently one of the barometers of regional and even national education and health. “Because Medan is expected to become a City of Education and a City of Health Tourism, as well as one of the icons of development that we are currently carrying out. Therefore, the synergy between the Medan City government and the world of education and health will continue to be maintained, built and improved in order to realize Medan to be more prosperous, independent and more competitive in the future", he hoped.

Rudy K Nababan, M.Sc., in his speech said, Kopertis always monitors the development of private universities in North Sumatra, and Unpri is one of the universities that is The Best. "Hopefully in the future Unpri will always provide the best in accordance with applicable provisions, so that it becomes an idol for the people of North Sumatra and provides support for national development in the field of education. Meanwhile, in the election of Mr and Ms Unpri 2014, there were 10 participants who entered the Grand Final to compete for Mr and Ms Unpri 2014, namely Muhammad Azmir Aljabbar (FKM), Albert Alyono (F Psychology), Alexander Leo Yehuda (FE), Anneyza Azzaulina (FE), Fanny Tjandra (FH), Daniel (FE), Clara Vanessa (FE), Putri Mentari Sitanggang (FK), Riko Satria (F Kom), and Shella Silvia Putri (FE).
In the peak of the Grand Final event of Mr and Miss Unpri 2014, each participant showed their talents such as acting and singing, playing the saxophone, guitarist, Chacha Dance, Ballet, Light Drum, Magic, Dance, Korean Dance (K-Pop).
After going through a long audition process and showing their talents in front of the judges and the audience, finally Muhammad Azmir Aljabbar was chosen as Mr. Unpri 2014 and Putri Mentari Sitanggang as Ms. Unpri 2014. Meanwhile, the winner of the Intelligence Category was Fanny Tjandra, the Talent Category was won by Rico Satria, and the Photogenic Category was won by Clara Vanessa. The winners of Mr. and Ms. Unpri 2014 each received a scholarship of Rp. 5 million, savings of Rp. 3 million each, and a laptop. Meanwhile, the winners of each category received savings of Rp. 1,250,000 each.
The symbolic handover of the trophies and scholarships to the winners was given by the Head of the Unpri Advisory Board, dr. I Nyoman Ehrich Lister, M.Kes., AIFM., Head of the Unpri BPH DR. Tommy Leonard, S.H., M.Kn, and Unpri Rector Prof. Dr. Djakobus Tarigan AAI DAAK. The event ended with a group photo of the entire Unpri academic community with the finalists of Mr. and Ms. Unpri 2014.
