Collaboration between UNPRI and RSU Royal Prima Medan: Shaping a Resilient Generation Driving Public Health Transformation
Strategic Collaboration in Education and Healthcare: Strengthening UNPRI Students’ Competence in Public Health Service and Management Practice

The continuous commitment to advancing the world of education and healthcare services is once again demonstrated by the Royal Prima Medan General Hospital (RSU Royal Prima Medan). Based on the latest report, this healthcare service institution is proudly entrusted once again to host the Field Study Practice (PBL) I for dozens of students from the Bachelor of Public Health Study Program at Universitas Prima Indonesia (UNPRI).
This strategic step marks the continuation of the essential collaboration between the academic sector and health practitioners, which aims to produce public health personnel who are not only theoretically excellent but also mature and resilient in facing complex field challenges.
Student Handover: Marking the Start of Academic-Practical Synergy
The solemn handover ceremony for dozens of UNPRI students took place in the Main Hall of RSU Royal Prima Medan, attended by key hospital management officials, the field supervision team, and representative advising lecturers from UNPRI. This ceremony officially commenced the Field Study Practice I period, which is scheduled to last for eight weeks within the hospital's operational environment.
The representative of RSU Royal Prima Medan management, in their address, affirmed the philosophy behind opening the hospital's doors as an educational platform. "We do not view this program merely as a routine cooperation. It is a substantial investment for the future of our national health system," they stated, highlighting the hospital's strategic role.
They added that the presence of public health students is expected to bring a fresh perspective, supported by the latest academic theories. The main focus of student placement is to observe and directly participate in how public health science functions as the backbone in designing and implementing hospital systems that are effective, efficient, and fundamentally oriented towards community needs.
"Our commitment is to ensure that these eight weeks become the most meaningful and transformational learning experience for every student," they emphasized.
Field Curriculum: Going Beyond the Limits of Passive Observation
The PBL I undertaken by UNPRI Bachelor of Public Health students is comprehensively designed, far exceeding a passive observation role. This field curriculum integrates analytical and implementational roles aimed at honing students' critical competencies.
During the Field Study Practice period, the students will be challenged to directly engage in several strategic work areas, including:
- Observation and Audit of Health Service Systems: Students will deeply study the operational workflow, managerial governance, and Standard Operational Procedures (SPOs) in various service units. The main focus is identifying critical points within the hospital service system.
- Advanced Health Data Analysis: Active involvement in the processing and interpretation of hospital health data will be a crucial part. The output of this analysis is aimed at supporting the strategic planning process and evaluation of ongoing or planned health programs.
- Development of Interactive Health Promotion: Students are tasked with designing and implementing health education programs. The target audience is patients and their families, aiming to hone effective communication skills and change health behavior in the community.
- Evaluation of Health Programs: They will learn methodologies for assessing the success, effectiveness, and tangible impact of prevention and health improvement programs implemented by RSU Royal Prima Medan.
'Living Laboratory' for Producing Solution-Oriented Graduates
The representative advising lecturer from UNPRI underscored the importance of the hospital environment as a 'living laboratory' for students.
"Our students will gain knowledge that does not just come from literature. They will learn directly from professionals and experts on the frontline of healthcare who are struggling every day to overcome dynamic health issues," explained the representative lecturer.
The academic hope is that this PBL experience will produce graduates who possess high academic intelligence, coupled with deep empathy, solid managerial capabilities, and, most importantly, have the capacity to formulate practical and innovative solutions to increasingly complex public health problems.
PBL as a Real Contribution to Service Quality Improvement
This PBL I program is designed to culminate with the presentation of work results and reflections. At the end of the eight-week period, each student group will present their field findings, in-depth analysis results, and a series of strategic recommendations to the management of RSU Royal Prima Medan and university representatives.
This form of academic accountability is not merely a fulfillment of graduation requirements but a real contribution with significant potential to encourage the improvement of the quality and efficiency of RSU Royal Prima Medan's services in the future.
By continually strengthening its role as an active teaching hospital, RSU Royal Prima Medan affirms its identity as an institution that does not only focus on providing the best healthcare services. Furthermore, RSU Royal Prima Medan actively invests in producing a generation of competent public health workers, upholding professional integrity, and ready to act as agents of transformative change within the broader community.
The UNPRI Bachelor of Public Health Study Program is constantly committed to further improving the quality of education and academics to remain the best Bachelor of Public Health Study Program in the city of Medan.
