UNPRI Master of Public Health Study Trends: Students Guided by Understanding Technology, Data and Global Leadership to Face Health Challenges

UNPRI, Medan – In an era of rapid digitalization and globalization, the field of public health is undergoing a major transformation. Universitas Prima Indonesia (UNPRI), an excellent socio-technopreneurship-based university led by Prof. Dr. Chrismis Novalinda Ginting, M.Kes., AIFO-K as Rector, stands out as one of the most adaptive institutions to these changes. Through its Master of Public Health (M.Kes.) program, UNPRI focuses on the integration of technology, data-driven approaches, and global perspectives to address the complex challenges of modern health systems.
As a multidisciplinary university with seven other faculties — including Law, Economics, Nursing and Midwifery, Agrotechnology, Psychology, Education, and Science and Technology — UNPRI integrates various disciplines into public health development. Graduate students learn not only in classrooms but also in UNPRI-owned healthcare facilities, ranging from clinics to teaching hospitals located in North Sumatra, Jambi, and soon Riau. Cross-disciplinary collaboration between the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry, and Health Sciences (FKKGIK) and the Faculty of Science and Technology (FAST) opens opportunities for innovation in IT-based health engineering and digital health solutions.
One of the key trends in UNPRI’s Master of Public Health program is the application of big data and artificial intelligence (AI) in healthcare systems. Students are trained to use modern data analytics tools to predict disease outbreaks, identify high-risk populations, and design more effective evidence-based policies. The integration of digital health (telehealth) is another highlight, enabling efficient and personalized healthcare services — a unique feature among universities in North Sumatra and Riau.
“After the pandemic, awareness of mental health has grown significantly. Therefore, we emphasize a community-based approach that involves direct participation from the public in addressing the root causes of health issues,” said Prof. Dr. dr. H. Gusbakti Rusip, M.Sc., Sp.KKLP., Subsp.FOMC(K)., PKK., AIFM., AIFO-K, Dean of FKKGIK UNPRI. He noted that modern public health professionals must be resilient, empathetic, and socially aware. UNPRI’s program blends theory with field internships and research in modern epidemiology and global health.
Beyond analytical and managerial skills, the program also offers key specializations such as Hospital Administration, Health Information Systems, Maternal and Child Health, Health Policy and Advocacy, and Occupational Health and Safety (OHS). Students gain hands-on experience managing healthcare facilities under UNPRI’s network without additional fees. This model makes UNPRI’s Master of Public Health program one of the most competitive in Indonesia.
According to Dr. Hartono, S.K.M., M.Kes., Head of the Master of Public Health Program, UNPRI’s approach is not only academic but also strategic in shaping future health leaders. “With an Outcome-Based Education (OBE) framework and technological integration, we aim to produce graduates capable of making data-driven decisions and leading change in the global health sector,” he said. With an “Excellent” accreditation and campuses in Medan and Pekanbaru, UNPRI offers broad opportunities for health professionals to pursue postgraduate studies and contribute to national development.
Health professionals, young practitioners, and graduates from any health-related bachelor’s degree program in Indonesia are encouraged to visit www.unprimdn.ac.id for detailed information and registration. In a rapidly changing world, UNPRI is committed not only to teaching but to shaping impactful, ethical, and globally-minded health leaders for the future.
