Faculty of Computer Science Engineering UNPRI Holds Virtual Public Lecture
Medan-Mediadelegation: Faculty of Technology and Computer Science Universitas Prima Indonesia (FTIK Unpri), Wednesday (16/9), held a Virtual Public Lecture with the theme: "Internship and Final Assignment: Innovative Topic & Concise Writing", attended by approximately 380 students and lecturers of FTIK Unpri. Also present were the Head of the Informatics Engineering Study Program Mawaddah Harahap, M.Kom and his Secretary Yennimar, M.Kom., Head of the Information Systems Study Program Siti Aisyah, M.Kom., Head of the Electrical Engineering Study Program Fadhilah, M.Kom., Head of the Industrial Engineering Study Program Anita Sembiring. Acting as a resource person for the activity was Arjon Turnip, Ph.D., Lecturer at the Department of Electrical Engineering UNPAD Bandung, Chair of IEEE IS CSS/RAS Joint Chapter and Director of the Toba Research Center.
In his remarks, the Dean of FTIK Upri, Mardi Turnip, M.Kom., appealed and invited all students to remain active and creative in dealing with the Covid-19 pandemic. He also said that the target for student publications in the future is international journals or proceedings. "So far, there have been several FTIK students/alumni who have published in international proceedings and will continue to be increased every year," said Mardi Turnip.
In his presentation, Arjon asked students to change according to the demands of Covid-19. Covid has changed everything in the order of life, especially the decline in job vacancies. If a student does not have expertise, it tends to only increase the number of unemployed. Students must be able to make final assignments based on national problems. Thus, when they graduate, students tend to be ready to solve the problems of this nation.
Arjon also explained that FTIK must be able to become a bridge for the development of science and technology between faculties at UNPRI through Artificial Intelligence, Big Data, and the Internet of Things. Students must actively ask or even beg lecturers to empower them. He also explained the strategy for choosing innovative topics and writing final assignments.
Some of the research topics that have been and are being researched by Arjon and his team include analysis and utilization of brain signal activity for various applications (such as for operating wheelchairs, drug detection, detection of food effects on the brain, detection of feelings, detection of aromas), detection of heart activity, detection of baby movement, car suspension systems, energy systems, water temperature control systems, and many more. Overall, the research lab developed by Arjon is able to provide more than 200 final assignment titles to FTIK UNPRI students.
Our Final Assignment titles will always be in the curriculum vitae (CV) and cannot be changed or deleted. If we have a bad or non-innovative Final Project Title, then our CV will be flawed forever. Arjon gave an example that just by reading the title of the final project, a person's quality will be reflected. If making an innovative Final Project is not possible, how can we solve the problems of this nation?
