Prof Taruna Ikrar Hopes UNPRI Medan Will Produce World-Class Researchers
Public Lecture by the Chairman of the Indonesian Medical Council
On Saturday, October 15, 2022, the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry & Health Sciences UNPRI held a public lecture with the theme "Miracles of Human Brain, Current & Future Direction of Neurosciences at the UNPRI Main Campus Hall, Jalan Sampul Medan.
The function of the brain is so complex that the study of the brain and everything related to it must go through a cross-disciplinary and holistic approach, for example, health, psychology, economics, social, culture, politics, technology, and so on. In connection with the complexity and dynamics in the development of neurosciences, this public lecture from the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry & Health Sciences presents expert speakers and moderators who are experienced and have competence and qualifications in their fields. This public lecture was presented by Prof. Taruna Ikrar, M.D., Biomed, Ph.D, Chairman of the Indonesian Medical Council and Director of the Members-at-Large IAMRA (International Association of Medical Regulatory Authorities with Dr. dr. Irza Haicha Pratama, M.K.M, AIFO-K, Secretary of the Undergraduate Medical Education and Medical Profession Study Program at FKKGIK UNPRI, the first batch of graduates of the UNPRI Doctoral Program in Medical Sciences as moderator and Muhammad Aditya Kurnia, SKM, MPH, Chairman of the UNPRI Academic Study Center as MC.
Prof. Taruna Ikrar is of the opinion that in this contemporary era, the development of Neurosciences is very rapid, it can even be said that Neurosciences is a leading science that shows the excellence of a nation. The Chairman of the Indonesian Medical Council also expressed his hope that UNPRI, with all the infrastructure facilities and human resources, can develop into an institution that produces world-class researchers. This is inseparable from the fact that UNPRI already has hospital and laboratory facilities as well as tens of thousands of alumni who has worked well in Indonesia and abroad, as well as thousands of teaching staff and educators.
Prof. Taruna Ikrar stated that it is time for UNPRI, as a university with Excellent or A Accreditation to develop a center of excellence, or specific excellence such as Neurosciences. The center of excellence, in his opinion, can develop research related to clinical trials of degenerative brain diseases to therapies and clinical trials of various treatments for degenerative brain diseases. Furthermore, the center of excellence can produce output in the form of Patents, Research Grants, Scientific Publications, to royalties for brain disease treatment as UNPRI's competitive advantage in its efforts to become a World Class University. He continued that an international university has characteristics that refer to performance, factors, and outputs so that institutions need to formulate strategies and targets.
The event was attended by UNPRI Founder Prof. Dr. dr. I Nyoman Ehrich Lister, M.Kes, AIFM-K, Sp.KKLP., Head of BPH UNPRI Dr. Tommy Leonard S.H., M.Kn., UNPRI Chancellor Prof. Dr. Chrismis Novalinda Ginting M. Kes, UNPRI Vice Chancellor (WR I) Abdi Dharma MKom, WR II Prof. Dr. Ermi Girsang MKes, WR III Said Rizal SHI, MA, WR IV Dr. dr. Ali Napiah Nasution MKT, Deans of all Faculties at UNPRI.
