UNPRI Officially Opens Internal Medicine Specialist Program
UNPRI officially opens the Internal Medicine Specialist Program. The decree from LLDIKTI Region I was handed to the Rector of UNPRI in Medan, bringing the total to 7 specialist programs.
Medan, September 10, 2025 – The Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry, and Health Sciences at Universitas Prima Indonesia (FKKGIK UNPRI) received the Decree on the Opening of the Internal Medicine Specialist Education Program (PPDS) from LLDIKTI Region I.
The decree was officially handed over by Prof. Saiful Anwar Matondang, MA, PhD (Head of LLDIKTI Region I) to
Prof. Dr. Chrismis Novalinda Ginting, M.Kes. (Rector of UNPRI), witnessed by Vice Rector I Dr. Abdi Dharma, S.Kom., M.Kom.,
Vice Rector II Prof. Dr. Ermi Girsang, M.Kes., M.Biomed., AIFO,
Vice Rector IV Dr. Ali Napiah Nasution, M.K.T., M.K.M., Sp.K.K.L.P.(K),
and Dean of FKKGIK Prof. Dr. H. Gusbakti Rusip, M.Sc., Sp.KKLP., Subsp. FOMC(K)., PKK., AIFM., AIFO(K),
at the LLDIKTI Region I Office, Jl. Setia Budi, Medan.
Indonesia is currently facing a shortage of medical specialists. All medical faculties in the country produce only about 3,500 specialists per year, while the national demand reaches 6,000 annually.
The need for internal medicine specialists is particularly urgent, with a ratio of only 0.026 per 1,000 people
(about 3 doctors for every 100,000 people). By the end of 2024, there were 6,206 internal medicine specialists,
still far below the ideal ratio mandated in the new Health Law.
President Prabowo Subianto instructed Minister of Health Budi Gunadi Sadikin and
Minister of Higher Education and Technology Brian Yulianto to expand medical, specialist, and nursing education facilities,
as regulated in Law No.17/2023 and Government Regulation No.28/2024.
The government also formed a Task Force to accelerate access and quality improvement in medical education through the Academic Health System.
As one of the designated universities for specialist training, UNPRI is fully committed to supporting the national program to produce high-quality medical professionals.
