FKK UNPRI Hosts Case Study Session: Exploring Legal Aspects of Decision-Making in Palliative Care
Sharpening Students' Critical Thinking and Ethical Decision-Making in Terminal Patient Care
Medan, June 10, 2026 — The Faculty of Nursing and Midwifery (FKK) at Universitas Prima Indonesia (UNPRI) successfully organized a Case Study session themed "Legal Aspects of Decision-Making in Palliative Care" on Tuesday (June 9, 2026). The academic event, held at the UNPRI Singkarak Campus, was directly guided by nursing expert Dr. Elis Anggeria, S.Kep., Ners., M.Kep.
The session aimed to enhance students' comprehensive understanding of legal, ethical, and professional boundaries within palliative nursing services. Through the analysis of real clinical cases, participants evaluated complex dilemmas frequently encountered by nurses when caring for patients facing terminal phases or life-threatening illnesses.
During the highly interactive discussion, students explored core legal principles underpinning nursing practice, including the execution of informed consent, protecting patient autonomy and rights, nursing advocacy, and professional accountability in clinical outcomes. The forum also highlighted the significance of interprofessional collaboration and effective communication with families to guarantee safe, quality care that aligns with existing healthcare regulations.
