Exploring the Potential of Young Entrepreneurs at UNPRI
The Faculty of Economics, Universitas Prima Indonesia (FE UNPRI) held an Entrepreneurship Festival at the UNPRI Campus, Jalan Sampul 3 Medan Petisah which lasted for two days, Saturday (3/12/2023). and Sunday (4/12/2023). In the Entrepreneurship Festival, dozens of young entrepreneurs, namely students and college students, took part in the bazaar from 70 tenants provided. The UNPRI Entrepreneurship Festival period IX was opened by the Mayor of Medan Bobby Nasution represented by the Head of the Cooperatives, SMEs and Trade, Benny Iskandar Nasution. Also present at the event were UNPRI Founder, Prof. Dr. I Nyoman Ehrich Lister, Unpri Rector, Prof. Chrismis Novalinda Ginting, Deputy Chairperson of Medan City Dekranasda, Ismiralda Wiriya Alrahman, and Unpri students.
In the opening ceremonial speech at the Campus Main Hall, UNPRI Rector, Prof. Chrismis Novalinda Ginting, explained that Youth Creativepreneur is a continuation of the UNPRI Entrepreneurship Festival which has been running since 2012. Prof. Chrismis said that Youth Creativepreneur has a main goal, namely to explore the potential of young entrepreneurs from college and high school students. "This two-day activity provides motivation for students to dare to become entrepreneurs and become young entrepreneurs who care about their environment," said Prof. Chrismis. According to him, this initiative is a concrete step in supporting the development of entrepreneurship among the younger generation, creating a space for inspiration and skills needed to start a business.
Not just a business, Prof. Chrismis also highlighted UNPRI's sociotechnopreneurship vision as a pillar in every entrepreneurial activity. This vision illustrates UNPRI's spirit in producing young entrepreneurs who not only focus on business aspects, but also care about social and environmental impacts. Thus, Youth Creativepreneur participants are expected to be able to build their businesses by paying attention to aspects of sustainability, social responsibility, and positive impacts on the surrounding community.
The Chairperson of Dekranasda Medan City, Mrs. Kahiyang Ayu Bobby Nasution, attended the opening of the IX Entrepreneurship Festival held by the Faculty of Economics, Universitas Prima Indonesia (FE Unpri) at the Unpri Campus, Jalan Sampul, Medan Petisah. The event, which was opened by the Mayor of Medan Bobby Nasution, represented by the Head of the Cooperatives, SMEs and Trade, Benny Iskandar Nasution, attracted the attention of dozens of young entrepreneurs, especially students, who also filled the bazaar with 70 tenants provided.
In his speech, Benny Iskandar expressed the Medan City Government's support for the Unpri Entrepreneurship Festival, describing it as an effort to raise the spirit of the young generation in Medan City to become entrepreneurs. "The Unpri Entrepreneurship Festival period IX is expected to produce young entrepreneurs with their best innovations for the development of entrepreneurship, especially in Medan City," said Benny Iskandar.
According to him, business opportunities are wide open for the young generation, and students are encouraged not to only focus on becoming civil servants or working in private companies. "Try and keep trying to become the boss of having your own business," said Benny Iskandar, emphasizing the role of young entrepreneurs in shaping the future of the Indonesian economy.
On the same occasion, the Head of the Cooperatives, SMEs and Trade Office also explained the various steps that have been taken by the Mayor of Medan Bobby Nasution in supporting business actors, especially MSMEs. Empowerment of MSMEs, said Benny Iskandar, is included in the priority program of the Medan City Government. Innovations in the economic sector, such as fostering MSMEs for export to various countries, have been carried out.
"Even this year we have exported to 7 countries including wastra or ulos cloth woven by MSME actors in Medan. This Wastra cloth has been sent to Germany, Jamaica, and even to Spain," said Benny Iskandar. Selection of superior export-worthy products and FGD between business actors are also real steps in advancing the UMKM sector in Medan.
On that occasion, Kahiyang Ayu accompanied by the Head of the Cooperatives, SMEs, Industry and Trade Office and Deputy Chairperson of the Medan City Dekranasda Ismiralda Wiriya Alrahman witnessed the signing of the MoU on entrepreneurship by the Chancellor of Unpri Prof. Dr. Chrismis Novalinda Ginting MKes with representatives of partners, namely Bank Mandiri, Perum Bulog, PT Japfa, Sabang School of Economics (STIES) Banda Aceh.
Furthermore, the Chairperson of the Medan City Dekranasda, Kahiyang Ayu Bobby Nasution accompanied by the Chancellor of Unpri cut the ribbon as the opening of the UMKM bazaar in the Unpri Entrepreneurship Festival period IX. The event which was held for two days successfully attracted no less than 2000 students and the general public.
