The Informatics Engineering Study Program, Faculty of Science and Technology, Universitas Prima Indonesia (UNPRI) held an impactful public lecture titled "Cryptography: Where Mathematics Serves as Cyberspace's Bodyguard" on Wednesday, January 29, 2026. The event, held at the UNPRI Campus Mini Hall, Medan, featured Dr. Mohammad Andri Budiman, a renowned expert from the University of North Sumatra, as the keynote speaker. He addressed hundreds of students on how cryptography has evolved into the cornerstone of digital confidentiality and global systemic trust.
During the session, Dr. Budiman emphasized that understanding the mathematical building blocks of cryptography is essential for building secure digital infrastructures. He highlighted the CIAN principles (Confidentiality, Integrity, Availability, and Non-repudiation) as the gold standard for future developers. The lecture also covered practical applications of symmetric and asymmetric encryption in modern banking, digital communication, and personal data protection, aligning with UNPRI's commitment to SDGs 4 and SDGs 9.
"Cryptography is not just a complex mathematical formula, but a 'bodyguard' that ensures data integrity in cyberspace. Mastering CIAN principles is the first step for students to design secure, ethical, and reliable digital systems amidst increasingly complex cyber threats," he asserted.
