FKKG UNPRI Students Complete Traditional Chinese Medicine Short Course Program in China
Exploring Global Health Systems and Oriental Medical Innovations to Strengthen the Competence of Adaptive Future Physicians.
Universitas Prima Indonesia (UNPRI) officially welcomed the return of 20 students from the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry (FKKG) who successfully completed a Short Course program at Shandong Food and Drug Vocational College, China. The welcoming ceremony was held in the Large Meeting Room, UNPRI Main Campus, Jalan Sampul No. 3, Medan, on Thursday (05/02/2026).
UNPRI Vice Rector III for Student Affairs, Dr. Refi Ikhtiari, M.Sc., Ph.D., emphasized that this International Student Mobility program is a competitive advantage for UNPRI as the best private FKKG in North Sumatra. This program, managed sustainably through the Center of Entrepreneurship and Development Center (CEDC), aims to produce medical graduates with professional Mandarin language skills and an international work ethic. "Through this initiative, the institution continues to strive to produce medical personnel who are not only academically superior in North Sumatra but also competitive through Mandarin language mastery and cross-country cultural understanding," said Dr. Refi Ikhtiari.
Delon, a student serving as the class commander (komting), shared the high level of discipline he encountered in China, especially the very strict culture of punctuality. "At 08:15, activities already started on time. We also had to adapt to night class schedules or self-study from 19:00 to 20:40, as well as meal times that followed the staff schedule there," he said. In terms of facilities, Delon noted technological advantages such as large touchscreen monitor boards and highly effective learning methods. The curriculum there is balanced, with one full month of theory and one full month of practice. Students also delved into the concept of "Chi" energy, which provides a different perspective on viewing a disease.
The experience of independence was also felt by Findelin, who was trusted as the dormitory coordinator. Living with students from Russia and Sri Lanka, Findelin played an active role in helping translate the lecturers' materials in class so that her colleagues could follow the lessons optimally. For her, this program not only honed academic abilities but also the ability to adapt to an international environment.
Meanwhile, Dinda, as a Muslim student, shared her impressions regarding tolerance in China. Although prayer times were quite different, she felt helped by the availability of halal-labeled canteens. "The locals were very friendly and often invited us to take photos together. During practice, the lecturers were very patient in guiding us through baby massage, cupping, and acupuncture techniques. We even had time to learn how to make traditional buns in a cooking class," Dinda recalled. This series of programs is part of the university's strategic steps in strengthening international collaboration and providing a global outlook for students.
