FACULTY OF MEDICINE UNPRI DEVELOPES RESEARCH BASED ON BIOMOLECULAR TECHNOLOGY

Coordinator of Kopertis Region I NAD - North Sumatra Prof. Dian Armanto, M.Pd, Ph.D stated that the Faculty of Medicine (FK) of Universitas Prima Indonesia (Unpri) is the only Private Faculty of Medicine in North Sumatra that has its own main Teaching Hospital (RS).
"This is a matter of pride for Kopertis Region I for the achievement of FK Unpri, because it has its own main Teaching Hospital with very complete facilities, as a place of education for Unpri medical faculty students." said Dian Armanto after hearing the presentation of the Head of BPH Yayasan Unpri Tommy Leonard, S.H., M.Kn, Dean of FK Unpri dr. Yahwardiah Siregar, PhD and Director of Royal Prima Hospital dr. Deli Theo, SpPK, MARS, at the Silaturrahmi event, Tuesday, July 16, 2013 afternoon at the hospital on Jalan Ayahanda Medan.
Also present at the event was the former Coordinator of Kopertis Region I NAD-Sumut Prof. Zainuddin, MPd. who currently serves as Head of the North Sumatra Provincial Government Education and Training, Vice Rector II Ermi Girsang SKM, MKes, Dean of the Faculty of Economics, Cut Fitri Rostina, SE, MM, Dean of the Faculty of Technology and Computer Science, Abdi Dharma S.Kom, Dean of Psychology Rianda Elvinawati, S.Psi, MPsi, Dean of the Faculty of Public Health, Santy Deasy Siregar, SKM., M.Kes, Dean of the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Drs. Hilman Haidir, M.Pd, Vice Dean I of the Faculty of Law, Theresia Simatupang, S.H., M.Hum., Vice Dean III of the Faculty of Medicine dr. Ali Nafiah Nasution, Head of the Faculty of Law Study Program Ronald Hasudungan Sianturi, S.H., M.H., and Head of Public Relations of Unpri Ramli J. Marpaung, SH, MM.
Dian Armanto said, currently the Medical Education Law has been passed, so that every medical faculty is required to have a main teaching hospital. "If in three years from now a medical faculty does not have a main teaching hospital, then the medical faculty must be closed or merge with another medical faculty," he said while saying that FK Unpri has prepared its teaching hospital well and with quality.
Previously, the Dean of FK Unpri dr. Yahwardiah Siregar, PhD, said that the main Teaching Hospital of FK Unpri stands in one area, precisely next to the FK Unpri building, with a height of 14 floors, a capacity of 250 beds, with facilities of 6 Operating Rooms, I.C.U Room, I.C.C.U Room, N.I.C.U Room, P.I.C.U Room, H.D.U Room, Radiology (CT Scan 128 slices, Digital X-Ray, Mammography, Mobile X-Ray, 4D USG, Echo Cardiography), Hemodialysis, Cath Lab, IGD, Delivery Room, Healthy Baby Room, Sick Baby Room, Endoscopy, Cardiac Stress Test, Children's Room, 32 Specialist and Sub-Specialist Polyclinics, Rehabmedic Facilities, Pharmacy, Cafeteria, Laboratory, Student Library, Seminar Room, COASS Room, Helipad (Helicopter Landing), and 24 Guest Rooms (Guest House).
With very complete facilities, said Yahwardiah, the main teaching hospital of FK Unpri will be the main hospital where FK Unpri students practice, and will be the first private medical faculty in North Sumatra to have an international standard teaching hospital.
"This hospital will fully function as a teaching hospital, community service, and research," he said again.
From an academic perspective, said Yahwardiah, FK Unpri focuses on tropical diseases, especially systemic fungal infections whose detection/proof is done through DNA analysis.
According to him, systemic fungal infections in human organs (not skin infections) are not easily detected because sometimes the symptoms are not specific, but can be proven by laboratory methods on the DNA/RNA of the fungus.
Thus, students will be given an understanding of the role of current technology, namely, proving disease (Evident Based) from DNA or RNA, and carrying out practicums on this matter.
He also added that the advantages of FK Unpri are having lecturers with specialist educational backgrounds, superspecialists from various fields of medical science, S2 and S3 levels from within and outside the country, as well as Professors, a strategic campus location, classrooms, and discussion rooms equipped with AC, and projectors in each room.
FK Unpri has a library with a complete collection of books, a laboratory computer room, language laboratory, and has various laboratories including: Basic Medical Science Laboratory (Anatomy, Histology, Pathology Anatomy, Physiology, Microbiology, Parasitology, Biochemistry, Clinical Pathology), and Clinical Skills Laboratory. The Faculty of Medicine Unpri has been Accredited by BAN-PT and is currently collaborating with Kaohsiung Veterans General Hospital Taiwan so that FK Unpri graduates can be sent to the hospital to continue specialist education. In 2013, FK Unpri will produce 20 alumni doctors.
The same thing was conveyed by the director of Royal Prima Hospital, dr. Deli Theo, SpPK, MARS, that with the establishment of the FK UNPRI Teaching Hospital, it will create quality graduate doctors who have high skills, because FK Unpri students are educated with the "early clinical exposure" method, one of the learning methods where students are introduced to clinical conditions early on, according to the blocks and materials being run, and a comprehensive learning system between theory and practice.
