Lecturers and Students of the Faculty of Agro Technology UNPRI Train Local Communities to Plant Vegetables Using Vertical Gardening Techniques

Medan – Lecturers and students of the Faculty of Agrotechnology, Universitas Prima Indonesia (UNPRI) conducted a Community Partnership Program (PKM), by introducing Vertical Gardening Techniques to the community around Campus 3 UNPRI Jln. Singkarak Lake Medan, Wednesday (10/30/2024)
The community is trained on how to utilize their yards, not only on how to make vertical cultivation media, in this activity the community is also taught how to cultivate vegetables and learn vegetable packaging techniques for a commercial scale.
The PKM activity is intended to provide knowledge to the community about vertical cultivation techniques and the importance of packaging for products.
In the PKM, the training material is divided into 3 parts. First, providing material on how to make vertical cultivation media using 4-inch and 2-inch PVC pipes.
Second, providing material on how to cultivate vegetables using vertical cultivation techniques organically. Third, providing knowledge about the importance of packaging to sell the vegetable products produced.
The PKM activity presented speakers Laura Juita Pinem S.Si.,MM and Siti Khairani, S.S.T., M.Agr, and was attended by a number of lecturers, 10 PKK mothers from residents around the campus and 20 students of the Faculty of Agro Technology.
The Head of PKM Dr. Suratni Afrianti, S.T.,M.Si expressed her gratitude to all participants who attended the event, especially to the PKK mothers who have been side by side with the Faculty of Agro Technology.
"Today, academics want to share their experiences and knowledge to be applied by the community. The vertical culture knowledge introduced aims to start from fulfilling daily needs, to creating business opportunities for housewives", said Dr. Suratni Afrianti, S.T., M.Si.
After the implementation of the PKM, the community felt they had new knowledge after receiving knowledge transfer from the resource person, and were happy because they could practice vertical culture activities directly.
Participants hope that the Faculty of Agro Technology will continue to care about the community around the campus, and it is hoped that similar training will be carried out regarding the manufacture of organic fertilizer.
"We hope that in the future similar activities will be carried out in accordance with the expectations of the community, so that the transfer of knowledge does not only occur on campus but also for the community around the campus, in the form of making organic fertilizer or other skills", said Dr. Suratni Afrianti, S.T., M.Si.
