FAST-UNPRI Industrial Engineering Students Undertake Experiential Learning-Based Internship at Royal Prima Medan Hospital, a Collaboration between Industry and Health
FAST-UNPRI Industrial Engineering students underwent an experiential learning-based internship at Royal Prima Medan Hospital to connect industrial science with management applications in the health sector.
UNPRI, Medan – Students from the Bachelor of Industrial Engineering Program under the Faculty of Science and Technology (FAST) at Universitas Prima Indonesia (UNPRI) carried out an Experiential Learning-Based Internship Program at Royal Prima General Hospital (RSU Royal Prima) Medan on Monday, October 13, 2025. The program was attended by five seventh-semester students and served as part of the university’s commitment to implementing hands-on, experience-based learning in real-world and impactful work environments. Through this internship, students had the unique opportunity to understand the application of industrial management principles within the modern healthcare system operated by RSU Royal Prima Medan, one of UNPRI’s flagship medical facilities.
The internship aimed to provide students with real-world experience in industrial management within the healthcare services sector, covering service systems, operational efficiency, as well as hospital logistics planning and control. During the program, the students, who were warmly welcomed by dr. Anita Sihaloho from the Human Resources Department of Royal Prima Hospital, were assigned to several divisions such as logistics, operational management, and hospital administration. They observed medical supply chain processes, managed the inventory of medicines and medical equipment, and analyzed the efficiency of internal distribution across hospital departments. This program allowed students to gain valuable insight into how industrial management principles are applied in public service environments, particularly in modern hospital management.
“This internship and practical training program are part of our experiential learning-based curriculum, fully supported by Royal Prima General Hospital. It provides significant added value for our students. They learn directly how industrial management theories are applied in real-life contexts, not just through classroom simulations. The goal is to ensure that UNPRI Industrial Engineering graduates are job-ready, capable of systemic analysis, efficiency management, and able to contribute positively to society,” said Dr. Anita Christine Sembiring, S.T., M.T., Head of the Industrial Engineering Study Program at UNPRI.
The Bachelor of Industrial Engineering Program at UNPRI is one of seven leading study programs under FAST, alongside Electrical Engineering, Informatics Engineering, Information Systems, Visual Communication Design, Architecture, and Civil Engineering. With a “Very Good” accreditation, the program integrates engineering, management, and economics to design and optimize industrial systems. Students are trained in system analysis, production management, ergonomics, logistics, and process design relevant to the needs of modern industries and the ongoing global digital transformation era.
Throughout their studies, FAST-UNPRI Industrial Engineering students explore a wide range of fields, including production system design, quality engineering, cost analysis, logistics and supply chain management, and the use of information technology for system simulation and optimization. They are also trained in essential soft skills such as communication, teamwork, leadership, and entrepreneurship. Career prospects for UNPRI Industrial Engineering graduates are diverse, ranging from manufacturing industries and service companies to government sectors and entrepreneurship. Graduates can pursue careers as industrial engineers, supply chain analysts, quality control engineers, health and safety engineers, or marketing analysts.
