UNPRI Pharmacist Professional Education Students Implement PKPA at Prima Vision Eye Hospital Medan
UNPRI Pharmacist Professional Students carry out PKPA at Prima Vision Eye Hospital Medan to improve competency in pharmacy practice and public health services.

Medan, UNPRI – Students of the Professional Pharmacist Education Program (PPA) at Universitas Prima Indonesia (UNPRI) are undertaking an Apothecary Professional Practice Program (PKPA) for eight weeks, starting on Monday, October 20, 2025, at Prima Vision Eye Hospital in Medan. This internship program is an integral part of the pharmacist professional curriculum designed to enhance students’ clinical, managerial, and ethical competencies before graduation through hands-on experience in hospital-based healthcare facilities. Currently, UNPRI owns six healthcare facilities in North Sumatra and one in Jambi, with another unit soon to open in Riau Province.
The PKPA at Prima Vision Eye Hospital involves pharmacist students from UNPRI under the guidance of academic supervisors and hospital pharmacy preceptors. During the internship, students actively participate in various pharmaceutical service areas, including pharmaceutical inventory management, prescription dispensing, drug and medical device quality assurance, as well as patient counseling and medication education. They are also involved in pharmaceutical care activities such as Adverse Drug Reaction (ADR) monitoring and Drug Use Evaluation (DUE).
According to the PKPA Coordinator of the Faculty of Pharmacy UNPRI, this internship provides students with real-world experience to understand the strategic role of pharmacists in hospital healthcare systems. Hospital pharmacists are not only responsible for the preparation and distribution of medications but also serve as clinical partners to physicians and other healthcare professionals to ensure safe, effective, and patient-centered pharmacotherapy.
Throughout the eight-week program, students are trained to apply the principles of Good Pharmacy Practice (GPP) and Patient Safety, including drug procurement planning, pharmaceutical logistics management, and monitoring of drug quality and stability. They are also introduced to sterile and non-sterile service units, as well as hospital information management systems that support modern pharmaceutical care.
Through this program, the Faculty of Pharmacy UNPRI aims to help students integrate academic knowledge with practical skills in the field. The internship experience at Prima Vision Eye Hospital serves as an essential foundation for future pharmacists to understand the complexity of pharmaceutical services in specialized hospitals and to cultivate a strong sense of professional responsibility for patient safety.
The implementation of PKPA at Prima Vision Eye Hospital reflects UNPRI’s ongoing commitment to producing pharmacists who are ethical, professional, and ready to contribute actively to improving the quality of national healthcare services, particularly in hospital pharmacy practices that prioritize patient-centered care.
