UNPRI Informatics Engineering Lecturers and Students Attend the 2025 Bug Bounty Awards at USU, Strengthening National Cybersecurity Talent Development on Campus
UNPRI’s Commitment to Developing National Cybersecurity Talent through Participation in the 2025 USU Bug Bounty Awards
UNPRI, Medan – This prestigious national event was initiated by the Center for Data and Information Technology of the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education (Pusdatin Kemdikdasmen). Held at Universitas Sumatra Utara (USU) on Tuesday (02/12/2025), it serves as a concrete manifestation of the government's seriousness in strengthening cybersecurity resilience, particularly in the education sector, while encouraging the birth of superior, high-integrity national cyber talents capable of global competition. The Bug Bounty Awards 2025 served as the pinnacle of the national Bug Bounty competition series held over the past few months under the theme “Secure Our Future.”
The series of events began at 09:00 AM WIB with a seminar covering strategic and current issues in the cybersecurity world, such as cybercrime and the implementation of the Personal Data Protection Act (UU PDP). The event was attended by the Head of Pusdatin Kemdikdasmen Yudhistira Nugraha, Vice Rector IV of USU Opim Salim Sitompul, as well as campus practitioners and academics. Universitas Prima Indonesia (UNPRI) sent three delegates from the Undergraduate Informatics Engineering Study Program, Faculty of Science and Technology (FAST): Andrian Reinaldo Crispin, S.H., S.Kom., M.Kom. (Lecturer), and two students, Muzakir and Ronata S. Meliala.
Bug Bounty is a collaborative security scheme involving ethical hackers—ranging from students and teachers to lecturers—to find and report security vulnerabilities in applications managed by Kemendikdasmen in a legal, measurable, and safe manner. Throughout Bug Bounty 2025, a total of 1,032 participants from various regions in Indonesia actively participated, from which 12 best winners were selected based on analytical accuracy, impact of findings, and validity of system vulnerability reports.
The Head of Pusdatin Kemdikdasmen, Yudhistira Nugraha, stated that for the first time, the Bug Bounty Awards 2025 were held outside of Java. According to him, cybersecurity is an essential foundation in the digital transformation era, especially in the education sector which stores sensitive data. The Bug Bounty program is a strategic step to ensure the digital education space is protected, and North Sumatra was chosen for its strong technology ecosystem and numerous computer science-based universities.
The UNPRI delegation participated in the EduCSIRT Summit 2025 training workshop in Class C, themed “Red Team in Action: Practical Exercises & Adversary Simulation.” This session was led by Santiko Kusnul Hakim, an independent security researcher and the 2023 Bug Bounty Winner. Participants were equipped with basic understanding of Red Teaming, cyber-attack simulations, and ethical hacking principles to strengthen digital system defenses in the campus environment.
“Thank you to LLDikti Region I North Sumatra for specifically inviting UNPRI. This national event adds new insights and is expected to be implemented on campus to make our cybersecurity stronger. This is a strategic step to expand the scope of cybersecurity development in facing the ever-evolving digital security challenges at the UNPRI campus, and we hope to cooperate with Pusdatin Kemendikdasmen,” said Andrian Reinaldo Crispin, S.H., S.Kom., M.Kom.
During this event, Pusdatin also introduced the latest innovation called the Cyber Threat Education Strategy (SEMAR) Card, a strategy-based card game designed to increase cybersecurity literacy for students and the general public in an interesting and fun way. This initiative is in line with the commitment to supporting SDGs 4, SDGs 9, SDGs 17 to create a safe, innovative, and collaborative educational environment.
