Acting US Ambassador Gives Public Lecture at UNPRI
Brian McFeeters Delivers Material on 'Enterpreneurship and Youth Leadership in Indonesia'
Charge de Affairs (United States Ambassador's Pit) Brian McFeeters gave a public lecture in front of students of Universitas Prima Indonesia (Unpri), yesterday at the Universitas Prima Indonesia Hall, Jalan Ayahanda Medan. In his lecture, Brian McFeeters delivered material on 'Enterpreneurship and Youth leadership in Indonesia' which seemed enthusiastic in motivating students to become young entrepreneurial leaders.
Brian McFeeters explained that US President Barack Obama launched YSEALI (Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative), which consists of bright young leaders aged 18-35 years from Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Burma, Philippines, Laos, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam.
According to him, young leaders have innovative ideas to address what they have identified as the biggest challenges of their generation in the ASEAN region, regarding economic development, environmental protection, education, and community involvement. Brian McFeeters also mentioned that the United States partners with extraordinary young people by providing training and supporting the Young Leaders of the Southeast Asia Initiative, because they believe that young people play a role in planning the future of Southeast Asia.
He hopes that students can learn more about YSEALL because when President Barack Obama was young, he started out as a community organizer to ensure that people in his community received job training and assistance in obtaining university degrees. According to Brian, the students who attended the public lecture were very good at using English. This was proven when asking him questions using English.
He said that all faculties at this university are important, therefore it is very fortunate for students who can study at Unpri. He also said that with this meeting, in the future, Unpri will strengthen relations with the United States Consulate in Medan. The public lecture was attended by the Founder of Unpri, Dr. I Nyoman Ehrich Lister MKes AIFM, Chairman of BPH Dr. Tommy Leonard SH MKn, Rector Dr. Djakobus Tarigan AAI DAAK, Director of Royal Prima Hospital, Dr. Ali Nafiah Nasution, Vice Rector I Seno Aji SPd MEng Prac and other academics.
