In his speech, Vice Dean 1 of FK UNPRI stated that the Faculty of Medicine UNPRI has been established since 2008 and throughout its journey has made many achievements, including A accreditation for the medical study program and the doctor profession. Then, in 2022, FK UNPRI was entrusted to open specialist study programs, namely Primary Health (KP) and radiology. This is very proud considering that FK UNPRI is the only private medical faculty that implements specialist study programs on the island of Sumatra. Dr. dr. Linda appreciates the support given by the founder of UNPRI and the Yayasan Perguruan Tinggi Prima Indonesia including the availability of a privately owned Main Teaching Hospital and Satellite.
The holding of this National Seminar is in line with the vision of the Faculty of Medicine to "Become a national leading Faculty in developing Sociotechnopreneurship in Health Sciences to produce health workers and IPTEKDOK through the management of Tridharma that prioritizes professional values" and improve the quality of education and graduates.
In the first session of the national seminar, dr. Alwinsyah explained about Tuberculosis (TB) Prevention in Indonesia. Based on the data, there were 1 million TB patients in 2022, an increasing trend after showing a decline during the Covid-19 pandemic. In accordance with the Ministry of Health's Movement, Joint Movement for TB Elimination 2030, it is important for medical students to receive education to prevent and treat TB patients, an issue that is currently a concern of the government. Moreover, Indonesia is ranked 2nd between China and the Philippines in terms of the number of TB sufferers in the world. To support TB elimination, improvements and updates to TB program management are needed for all health workers in Indonesia.
Continuing his presentation, dr. Alwinsyah said that Tuberculosis itself can be divided into Bacteriological Tuberculosis and Clinical Tuberculosis, patients who do not meet the criteria for being diagnosed bacteriologically but are diagnosed as active TB patients by doctors and are decided to be given TB treatment
Moving on to the explanation from the second speaker, the Head of PAPDI North Sumatra stated that each phase of life has different problems. Related to the life expectancy of Indonesia in general and North Sumatra in particular, which is 70 years for men and 68 years for women, it is necessary to teach knowledge related to geriatrics, a branch of medical science that focuses on the treatment, diagnosis, and prevention of diseases and health disorders that attack the elderly. The elderly are increasingly vulnerable to the risks of diseases such as hypertension, arthritis and stroke.
"On average, the diseases that attack the elderly are multi-diseases, related to decreased human function. This cannot be separated from other aspects such as depression, poverty, and malnutrition so that in handling geriatrics, it requires an interdisciplinary perspective such as from sociology and psychology," explained Dr. Ariantho.
The Head of PAPDI North Sumatra also questioned the fact that geriatrics in North Sumatra is still lacking in attention, especially when compared to treatment in Java and Bali. PadahDemographically, 10% of the population in North Sumatra are elderly, and 85% of elderly people who are treated for geriatrics are neglected, lacking attention from their family members.
"What is the first thing to pay attention to for the elderly? Nutrition and movement, organs can weaken if not used, such as muscles. Malaysian PM Mahathir Mohammad is still active at the age of over 90 years. The point is, the elderly should not just sit around at home, they must be active. Don't get used to the idea that if you are old, you can relax, you must remain active, continue to be active," said Dr. Ariantho.
Dr. Ariantho expressed his admiration for the UNPRI campus, that UNPRI's success in opening specialist study programs was also discussed at the PAPDI National Working Meeting which took place in Jakarta. The Head of PAPDI North Sumatra appreciated the opportunity given to present a public lecture at the UNPRI Main Campus.
The event continued with a question and answer session, some questions to spark discussion presented by UNPRI FK students included: What is the picture of the oral manifestation of TB, especially related to cross-infection that occurs? What is the dosage of Tuberculosis drugs when sufferers are fasting? Then, how to identify someone who can be infected with TB orally?
