FKKGIK UNPRI Successfully Holds Public Lecture “The Role of the Pharmaceutical World in the Development of Natural Medicines in the Industrial Era 5.0”

Medan-Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences, Universitas Prima Indonesia (FKKGIK UNPRI), successfully held a Public Lecture entitled "The Role of the Pharmaceutical World in the Development of Natural Medicines in the Industrial Era 5.0", Tuesday (24/9/2024) at the Main Hall of the UNPRI Campus, Jln. Sampul no 3 Medan.

This activity was carried out face-to-face, attended by the Dean of FKKGIK Prof. Dr. dr. H. Gusbakti Rusip, M.Sc., Sp.KKLP (K)., PKK., AIFM., AIFO-K, vice deans and teaching staff of the Clinical Pharmacy Study Program and 1000 students of the Clinical Pharmacy Undergraduate Study Program and the Pharmacist Professional Education Study Program. This public lecture activity was guided by apt. Razoki, S.Si., M.Kes., M.Biomed., M.H as the moderator.

In this Public Lecture, FKKGIK UNPRI invited two speakers, namely apt. Noffendri, S.Si, General Chairperson of the Central Board of the Indonesian Pharmacists Association (IAI), and Prof. apt. Fatma Sri Wahyuni, Ph.D, Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy, Andalas University.

In this public lecture, apt. Noffendri, S.Si said that being a pharmacist is a noble task to ensure the quality and safety of drugs from upstream to downstream, or from industry to patients. Therefore, a pharmacist is required to be competent in order to play a role in society and pharmacists become the hope of the nation.

Prof. apt. Fatma Sri Wahyuni, Ph.D who is familiarly called Prof. Ayu, is a Professor of Pharmacology and Clinical Pharmacy who is also the Deputy Chairperson of the Indonesian College of Pharmaceutical Sciences (KIFI), Secretary of the Indonesian Pharmaceutical College Association (APTFI), a researcher and active in global health issues.

Prof. Ayu has a track record of work including as Chair of the UNAD Pharmacy Study Program, the Expert Council of PP IAI and the Regional Coordinator of PN UKAI. Prof. Ayu said that Natural Medicines (OBA) still have great potential to be developed, especially those that are efficacious as cancer drugs. “There are around 20 million new cases of cancer found every year, while in Indonesia the incidence of cancer is 136.2/100,000 population with a mortality rate of 40-61%.

Today's Public Lecture activity is expected to increase the interest of prospective pharmacist graduates to become researchers, to accelerate the development of Natural Medicines in the industrial era 5.0.

In their closing, both apt. Noffendri and Prof. Ayu expressed their pride in Universitas Prima Indonesia, because UNPRI already has Excellent Accreditation, which will help develop graduates' careers and always provide routine knowledge update information. Both hope that in the future they will find UNPRI FKKGIK Alumni as leaders in the world of pharmacy.
