UNPRI Holds Public Lecture

Universitas Prima Indonesia (UNPRI) successfully held a Public Lecture with the theme "China-Indonesia Bilateral Relations, China's Foreign Affairs Policy and Others." The event was attended by the main resource person, namely the Consul General of the People's Republic of China in Medan, Zhang Min, and was held at the UNPRI Main Campus Hall, Jalan Sampul 4 Medan on Friday, July 21, 2023.

This Public Lecture was also attended by various important representatives from the Consulate General of the People's Republic of China in Medan, Liu Yuqing, and Guo Jingfei. Then from UNPRI, Mr. A.U. Linggo as UNPRI Board Advisor, WR I Abdi Dharma, S.Kom, M.Kom, and WR 3 Said Rizal, SHI, M.A. No less than 400 students also witnessed the event.

The event was opened with remarks from the UNPRI Rector represented by WR 1. In his remarks, UNPRI Vice Rector 1 conveyed his respects to the Consulate General located on the UNPRI campus, a modern educational institution in the middle of Medan. Abdi Dharma also presented information about UNPRI as one of the Private Universities (PTS) that is growing rapidly in Medan, by providing 48 tiered study programs ranging from diploma, bachelor's (S1), master's (S2), to doctoral (S3) as well as specialist and professional programs, which are spread across the Medan and Pekanbaru campuses.

Furthermore, WR 1 emphasized that UNPRI continues to strive to provide the best quality education in Indonesia. He also highlighted the importance of bilateral cooperation between Indonesia and China, especially in the field of education. UNPRI has provided opportunities for its students to study in China through scholarship programs and learning opportunities, including the Mandarin D4 program for business communication.

In the public lecture, the Chinese Consul General began his remarks with a direct statement that reflected his admiration for the youthful and energetic atmosphere at UNPRI. He stated, "Visiting UNPRI made me amazed and feel young again. Today I came to UNPRI to learn from young and energetic students."

Through his lecture material, Zhang Min emphasized that Indonesia and China are two large countries in the world, members of the G20, and have rich ethnic and cultural diversity. The two countries also have a long history of diplomatic interaction. Zhang Min highlighted the great development opportunities in various sectors, such as economics, politics, culture, and maritime, which can be realized through mutual assistance and cooperation.

The focus of the discussion was mainly on cultural and educational cooperation, which are strong pillars in the Indonesia-China bilateral relationship. This cooperation includes further studies and exchanges between universities. Zhang Min emphasized that China is one of the main destinations for Indonesian students who want to continue their studies abroad, with a total of 15,000 people. Conversely, Chinese students are also increasingly interested in studying in Indonesia, with around 200 Chinese students currently studying at UNPRI.

This Public Lecture event is also an important momentum in creating further opportunities for UNPRI students to study in China and vice versa, providing opportunities for Chinese students to study at UNPRI. Zhang Min also conveyed plans for future cooperation, which involves the establishment of a Confucius Institute at UNPRI. Currently, there are eight universities in Indonesia that have Confucius Institutes, but there are none in Sumatra. UNPRI is committed to being a pioneer in the establishment of such an institution that will strengthen cooperation and relations between the two countries in the fields of culture and education.

With this successful Public Lecture event, UNPRI is committed to continuing to play an active role in student exchanges between Indonesia and China to strengthen educational cooperation and create an international learning environment in order to produce graduates who are able to contribute globally.
