UNPRI Chancellor Receives Decree on PSDKU Opening Permit for Undergraduate Medical Study Program and Professional Doctor Education Study Program in Pekanbaru City

Medan, Chancellor of Prima Indonesia University (UNPRI), Prof. Dr. Chrismis Novalinda Ginting, M.Kes, received the Decree of the Minister of Education, Culture, Research and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia Number 651/E/0/2024 concerning Permits to Open Study Programs Outside the Main Campus in Pekanbaru City for the Undergraduate Medical Study Program and the Doctoral Study Program Professional Doctor Education Professional Program at Universitas Prima Indonesia in Medan City, organized by the Yayasan Perguruan Tinggi Prima Indonesia.
The Decree was directly submitted by the Head of LLDIKTI Region I Prof. Drs. Saiful Anwar Matondang MA PhD at the LLDIKTI Region I Office in Medan, Monday (7/10/2024) as seen in the photo. "UNPRI is the only PTS in Indonesia that has PSDKU for the Medical Study Program. For that, I hope that by opening the Medical Study Program and Doctor Profession at the Pekanbaru Campus, it can support the program Government in fulfilling the medical personnel of Doctors in Riau Province," he said.
Asked about the background of the opening of PSDKU in Pekanbaru City, Prof. Dr. Chrismis Novalinda Ginting, M.Kes explained, the Decree of the Minister of Education, Culture, Research and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia Number 545/E/0 of 2023 dated June 16, 2023 concerning the Permit for the Merger of the Dharma Husada Pekanbaru Midwifery Academy in Pekanbaru City to UNPRI in Medan City, which organized by the Prima Indonesia Higher Education Foundation.
"The proposal to open the Undergraduate Medical Study Program and the Professional Doctor Education Study Program PSDKU Pekanbaru City is based on Article 30 paragraph 2 of the Regulation of the Minister of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia Number 7 of 2020, that PSDKU can be opened to meet special needs", he said.
The special needs referred to according to the UNPRI Chancellor are in accordance with the study by the Indonesian Ministry of Health, the World Health Organization or WHO, which states that every country must strive to meet the "Golden Finishing Line" criteria, which requires a country to have at least one doctor for every thousand citizens. (ratio 1:1000).
"Currently, Indonesia still lacks doctors, dentists and specialist doctors, medical personnel with a ratio of 0.47:1000. This means that currently the availability of the number of doctors in Indonesia is 147,444 with the population of Indonesia "As many as 277,432,360 people, so Indonesia lacks 129,988 doctors," he said.
It should be noted that 8 out of 11 countries in ASEAN are still in a condition below the doctor ratio of 1:1000 residents, and Indonesia is in 3rd position the lowest after Cambodia and Laos.
Based on data on the availability of doctors in 2023 in Riau Province with a population of 7,295,829 people, and the number of doctors is 3,162 people, there is still a shortage of 4,134 doctors. Meanwhile, there are only two universities that provide medical education in Riau Province, which produce 151 doctors per year, so it will take 27 years to meet the need.
"To support the fulfillment of medical personnel for doctors at the Ministry of Health, PSDKU UNPRI "Pekanbaru City is trying to open a Bachelor's Degree Medical Study Program and a Professional Doctor Education Program," concluded the Chancellor of UNPRI.
