Medan's Best Private Campus, UNPRI, Presents Civil Engineering, a Flagship FAST Program that Addresses Modern Infrastructure Challenges
Universitas Prima Indonesia (UNPRI) officially opened the Civil Engineering Study Program at the Faculty of Science and Technology (FAST) as a strategic step to address the need for modern and globally competitive infrastructure development.
UNPRI, Medan – Universitas Prima Indonesia (UNPRI) once again proved its excellence as the leading private university and socio-technopreneurship-based institution in Medan by introducing the Bachelor’s Program in Civil Engineering under the Faculty of Science and Technology (FAST). This program is not merely the addition of a new faculty but a strategic step by UNPRI to meet the nation’s demand for technologically skilled, innovative, and sustainability-oriented human resources in modern infrastructure development.
The UNPRI Civil Engineering program is the first and only program in North Sumatra—and even in the entire Sumatra Island—to adopt the nomenclature “Rekayasa” (Engineering) as a modernization of the traditional Civil Engineering discipline.
Conceptually, “Rekayasa Sipil” represents a paradigm shift in engineering education toward a more scientific, creative, and solution-driven approach. While conventional Civil Engineering focuses on the technical application of construction skills, “Rekayasa Sipil” integrates technological innovation with critical and systemic thinking to address modern infrastructure challenges. Students are not only taught how to build but also how to design efficient, eco-friendly, and climate-adaptive construction solutions that meet urban needs.
This aligns with the vision of UNPRI Rector Prof. Dr. Chrismis Novalinda Ginting, M.Kes., AIFO-K., who emphasized that UNPRI must become a pioneering university that produces innovative graduates with a strong sense of social responsibility and technopreneurial spirit.
The program is led by Puji Syukran, B.Eng., M.Eng. as Head of Program and supervised by Prof. Ir. Bhakti Alamsyah, MT., Ph.D. as Dean of FAST. Both are experienced academics and practitioners in engineering and construction management. The curriculum is comprehensively designed with three main focuses: water resource management, disaster mitigation, and infrastructure that supports public health. Through a blend of theory, field practice, and digital technology such as Building Information Modeling (BIM), students are trained to analyze and design efficient, sustainable, and community-oriented construction systems.
Interestingly, the program not only prepares students for traditional engineering careers but also for research, entrepreneurship, and technological innovation. Students are encouraged to master cross-disciplinary skills—from structural design, material analysis, and project management to the use of modern engineering simulation software. With UNPRI’s socio-technopreneurship DNA, students are inspired to contribute to nation-building with social responsibility and innovation-driven leadership.
Graduates of UNPRI’s Civil Engineering program are expected to meet the growing challenges of the workforce in the era of sustainable development.
