Students of Universitas Prima Indonesia celebrate Waisak Day
Saturday, June 1, 2013, students of Universitas Prima Indonesia (Unpri) celebrated Waisak Day 2557 BE / 2013 with the theme "Universal Love", taking place at Campus I Jalan Belanga, Ayahanda intersection, Medan.
The 2557 BE / 2013 Vesak celebration was attended by the chairman of the Unpri Foundation, Dr. I Nyoman Ehrich Lister, M.Kes, AIFM, Chairman of BPH Tommy Leonard, SH., M.Kn, Chancellor Prof. Dr. Djakobus Tarigan, AAI, DAAK, all Unpri Faculty deans and their staff, the person in charge of the event YM. Bhikkhu Aggacitto, resource person Ven. Bhikkhu Pannasami Thera, as well as Ven. Bhikkhu Candasilo and all Unpri Buddhist students.
Waisak is a Buddhist holiday, that is why as Buddhists we are obliged to commemorate and celebrate it. Waisak 2557 BE / 2013 Unpri this time uses the theme "Universal Love" which was inspired by the great teacher, namely the Buddha who always radiates his love to all creatures. Said Dewi Chyntia as Chair of the Committee.
In the commemoration of Tri Suci Waisak which is an annual event of Unpri, Y.M Bhikkhu Aggacitto as the person in charge of the event added that "Tri Suci Waisak is an important moment in Buddhism, because with the Tri Suci Waisak the teachings of Buddha appeared and existed in this world. Tri Suci Waisak is commemorated by Buddhists with the aim of remembering three important events in the life of the Buddha (the birth of Bodhisatta in Lumbini Park in 623 BC, the realization / achievement of becoming a Buddha in Buddhagaya in 588 BC and Mahaparinibbana / the death of Buddha in the Kusinara forest in 543 BC). It is hoped that especially for Unpri students and Buddhists in general can interpret this year's Waisak 2557 BE / 2013 not only to reflect on events that have been 26 centuries ago, but also to make this moment a self-awareness of the importance of applying Buddhist teachings in everyday life to increase the noble values of humans who have morality and behavior full of love for others", in his speech.
The Unpri Waisak Day celebration included activities including worship, chanting, peace lamps, sprinkling holy water, dhammadesana, contemplation, and art performances including shou yu (hand signals) by the Unpri Buddhist KMB committee, Buddhist song singing by the Jaya Manggala Group vocalist, ITBC youth brotherhood and Susanti (Unpri Faculty of Psychology students), magic show by Black Axel and Sultan Hendrick, dance by CDC Crew, Pmvmas, and DCBC youth brotherhood.
In the Waisak unpri message, Y.M Bhikkhu Pannasami Thera said that we as Buddhists should be able to emulate the nature possessed by the Buddha, namely being able to practice unlimited love "Universal Love/ Metta" to anyone and to any creature, because by instilling such a nature it will be able to erode discriminatory traits between tribes, religions, and races, moreover it can also help erode hatred and hostility so that peace and tranquility which are a hope will always be maintained within each individual. The development of such love can also provide positive vibrations in a person's mindset, because universal love without discrimination will eliminate chaos within. Thus, harmony within oneself and between religious communities can be realized.
At the end of the event, the MC representing the entire Committee and the extended family of Buddhist students of Universitas Prima Indonesia said, Happy Commemorating the Tri Suci Waisak Day 2557 BE/ 2013, may everyone be happy and progress in dhamma.
