UNPRI Hosts the 2026 GreenMech Regional Competition for North Sumatra
A Tangible Form of UNPRI's Commitment to Advancing Technology, Innovation, and STEM Education for the Future Generation.
Medan – The Faculty of Science and Technology (FAST) at Universitas Prima Indonesia (UNPRI) hosted the North Sumatra GreenMech Regional Competition on Saturday (Feb 28, 2026), at the UNPRI Campus Main Hall, Medan. Organized by Rumah Edukasi, this competition was attended by elementary, junior high, and senior high school students across North Sumatra to foster teamwork and creativity in showcasing innovative Indonesian science education. This is in line with UNPRI's commitment to supporting the development of competent and high-quality human resources from an early age.
Based on scientific principles, this competition integrates five aspects of learning and development, namely STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics), into the participants' skills development. Rumah Edukasi has organized GreenMech and Robot for Mission competitions at regional and national levels since 2017 and has successfully led the Indonesian team to become world champions in the Robot for Mission competition in 2019, 2023, 2024, and 2025.
The event was opened by the Dean of the Faculty of Science and Technology at UNPRI, Prof. Ir. Bhakti Alamsyah, M.T., Ph.D., who expressed his appreciation to all participants. "What I want to say to the parents and participants is congratulations and thank you for encouraging yourselves to attend the UNPRI campus and participate in this competition," he said. He emphasized the importance of such activities amidst the rapidly growing era of technology, artificial intelligence, and digitalization.
Prof. Bhakti added that more than just a competition, this activity is a concrete step in developing humans holistically. "What is important today is how we develop humans. Choosing this activity and having the courage to come here and compete is an extraordinary decision," he stated. This proves that UNPRI continues to innovate in providing a platform for the younger generation to hone their talents toward global standards.
The competition was exciting with various categories, from GreenMech Junior Science and Junior Programmer to Robot for Mission (R4M). Participants showed extraordinary abilities in designing, programming, and operating robots according to the given missions. UNPRI's active participation in supporting this competition confirms the university's role in building an adaptive and internationally-minded educational ecosystem to produce competent and high-quality graduates.
