Acting US Ambassador Brian McFeeters delivers material on 'Enterpreneurship and Youth leadership in Indonesia'
MEDAN (Portibi DNP): Charge de Affairs (Acting United States Ambassador) Brian McFeeters gave a public lecture to students of Universitas Prima Indonesia (UNPRI), Thursday (8/9) at the Universitas Prima Indonesia Hall, Jalan Ayahanda Medan. In the public lecture, Brian McFeeters delivered material on 'Enterpreneurship and Youth leadership in Indonesia'
The event was attended by UNPRI Founder dr I Nyoman Ehrich Lister MKes AIFM, BPH Chairman Dr Tommy Leonard SH MKn, UNPRI Chancellor dr Djakobus Tarigan AAI DAAK, Royal Prima Hospital Director dr Ali Nafiah Nasution, Vice Chancellor I Seno Aji SPd MEng Prac, Vice Chancellor II Ermi Girsang SKM MKes, Dean of the Faculty of Technology and Computer Science Abdi Dharma SKom MKom, Vice Dean of FE Unpri Hendry SE MM and UNPRI students.
On that occasion, Brian McFeeters explained that US President Barack Obama launched YSEALI (Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative), which consists of intelligent young leaders aged 18-35 years from Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Burma, Philippines, Laos, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam.
"Young leaders have innovative ideas to address what they have identified as their generation's greatest challenges in the ASEAN region, around economic development, environmental protection, education, and civic engagement," said Brian McFeeters. Brian McFeeters also said that the United States is partnering with extraordinary young people by providing training. He said that the United States is proud to support the Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative because it believes that young people are the ones who will be the ones to chart the course of Southeast Asia's future.
He hopes that UNPRI students can learn more about YSEALI. When President Barack Obama was a young man, he started out as a community organizer making sure people in his community received job training and assistance in earning college degrees. He knew from personal experience that young people can be powerful agents for good in their communities. YSEALI is carrying on President Obama's legacy by enhancing community leadership among youth in ASEAN member countries," he said.
In the public lecture, Brian McFeeters appeared enthusiastic and passionate in motivating UNPRI students. According to him, UNPRI students who attended the public lecture were very good at English. He stated this when the questions thrown at him by students were in English. He also added that all faculties at UNPRI are important. And he stated that students are lucky to study at UNPRI. He hopes that with this meeting, in the future UNPRI's relationship with the United States Consulate in Medan will be strengthened.P08
