UNPRI International Program: FKKG Students Study Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) Directly in China
UNPRI sends 20 seventh-semester FKKG students to Shandong, China, for a two-month intensive program focusing on Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), including training in Acupuncture, Moxibustion, and Tuina.

Medan, 2025 — Universitas Prima Indonesia (UNPRI) once again asserts its position as an internationally-minded educational institution by sending 20 students from the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry, and Health (FKKG) Semester 7 to Shandong Food and Drug Vocational College, China.
This program, part of the Additional Competency Improvement Program, is designed as a strategic effort to broaden students' academic and global horizons, particularly in the field of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), whose contribution is increasingly recognized in global healthcare practice. For two months, the students will undergo intensive learning focused on deepening their knowledge of TCM through structured training covering Acupuncture Techniques, Moxibustion Therapy, and Tuina, enabling them to gain direct clinical experience as well as a comprehensive understanding of traditional Chinese medical practice at an international-standard institution.
This intensive program provides students with the opportunity to learn directly from TCM experts at one of the best health education centers in Shandong Province. Through a directed curriculum and deep practical approach, students are guided to systematically master the three main pillars of TCM:
- Acupuncture Techniques: Students will learn the concept of vital energy (Qi), the body's meridian map, needle insertion techniques, and their application in various clinical cases. Training is provided directly by certified acupuncture practitioners, ensuring students understand both the theoretical and practical aspects equally.
- Moxibustion Techniques: In this material, students are introduced to the method of heating acupuncture points using moxa (mugwort) to increase blood circulation, reduce coldness, and balance bodily functions. Students will also understand the fundamental philosophy and its clinical approach in modern TCM-based treatment.
- Tuina Techniques: As a unique Chinese manual therapy, Tuina combines massage, pressing, and manipulation of muscles and joints. Students receive intensive training on safe, effective, and internationally standardized manipulative techniques, understanding their benefits in musculoskeletal therapy and rehabilitation.
The Rector of UNPRI, Prof. Dr. Chrismis Novalinda Ginting, M.Kes., stated that sending these 20 students is a strategic step for UNPRI in preparing graduates who possess global competence and are capable of adapting to developments in modern health science. She affirmed that this kind of international academic cooperation reflects UNPRI's dedication to providing health education that is excellent, innovative, and of international standard.
Meanwhile, the Dean of UNPRI FKKG, Prof. Dr. dr. H. Gusbakti Rusip, M.Sc., Sp.KKLP., Subsp.FOMC(K)., PKK., AIFM., AIFO-K., revealed that the opportunity to learn directly at a leading health institution in Shandong will provide significant added value for the students. According to him, this experience will not only broaden students' insights and understanding of TCM but also strengthen their clinical skills, boost confidence, and confirm their readiness as competent health professionals capable of competing at the international level.
