UNPRI Impactful Student Program Team Conducts Digitalization Mentoring for Coastal MSMEs in Aek Tolang, Central Tapanuli
A Tangible Form of UNPRI Students' Commitment to Driving Digital Transformation and Economic Independence for Business Actors in Coastal Areas
Central Tapanuli – Students do not only play a role as agents of change in the academic environment but also as drivers of economic recovery in society. This was realized by the UNPRI Impactful Student Program (PMB) Team through mentoring activities for the digitalization of coastal SMEs in Aek Tolang Village, Pandan District, Central Tapanuli Regency, as part of post-disaster economic recovery efforts through a program titled "Post-Disaster Economic Recovery Through Digitalization of Coastal SMEs Based on Student Mentoring in Central Tapanuli."
The Impactful Student Program is under the auspices of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology (Kemdiktisaintek), focusing on developing community-based solutions and strengthening social and environmental resilience in disaster-affected areas. UNPRI expresses deep gratitude and appreciation to Kemdiktisaintek for the grant provided, allowing students to be directly involved in empowerment programs that have a real impact on society to produce competent and high-quality graduates.
As an initial stage, the INFINITY FAST team consisting of 50 UNPRI students under the guidance of Yonata Laia, M.Kom., held a socialization session with the Head of Aek Tolang Village and two Neighborhood Heads (Kepling) at the Aek Tolang Village Office, Jalan Oswald Siahaan, Aek Tolang, on Monday (Feb 9, 2026). This meeting discussed the plan of activities carried out with the local community in the context of post-disaster economic recovery.
During the two-week program implementation, the student team conducted various activities, starting from socialization, counseling, training on fish-based cracker product innovation, to SME digitalization mentoring which includes digital marketing and technology-based administrative management. The highlight of the activity was marked by the handover of production machinery to the local community as a form of concrete support to increase productivity and the economic added value of coastal SME players.
The Supervising Lecturer, Yonata Laia, stated that this program is designed to provide a long-term impact. "We ensure there is a transfer of knowledge and skills that can be applied sustainably by the community," he said. Given the unfavorable weather conditions and the threat of further flash floods in the region, the program implementation was condensed into two weeks (14 days) so that all activities could be carried out safely and effectively.
Through this program, UNPRI students have made a real contribution to the economic recovery of the coastal community of Central Tapanuli, while proving themselves as competent and high-quality development agents.
