Strategic Synergy: RS Mata Prima Vision, UNPRI, and RS Mata Cicendo Strengthen Eye Health Services and Education
Aiming to Become a Center for Specialist Medical Education and Equitable Eye Care in Western Indonesia
Medan, June 4, 2026 — RS Mata Prima Vision and Universitas Prima Indonesia (UNPRI) have entered into a strategic partnership with RS Mata Cicendo Bandung. The meeting and signing ceremony, held at RS Mata Prima Vision in Medan, focused on developing specialist medical education, strengthening eye care networks, and establishing RS Mata Prima Vision as a Primary Teaching Hospital (RSPPU) for the western region of Indonesia.
The event was attended by the President Director of RS Mata Cicendo, Dr. dr. Antonia Kartika, Sp.M(K)., M.Kes., along with her delegation. Representing UNPRI were Vice Rector IV Dr. dr. Ali Napiah Nasution, M.K.T., M.K.M., Sp.KKLP(K)., Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry (FKKG) Prof. Dr. dr. H. Gusbakti Rusip, M.Sc., Sp.KKLP., Subsp.FOMC(K)., PKK., AIFM., AIFO-K., and Head of the Ophthalmology Study Program Dr. dr. H. Gede Pardianto, Sp.M(K). RS Mata Prima Vision was represented by President Director Dr. dr. Muhammad Faridz Syahrian, MKM., AIFO-K., and Vice Director Dr. Sudirman.
The discussion addressed the need for equitable distribution of ophthalmologists in North Sumatra, particularly in underserved areas such as Nias. UNPRI and RS Mata Prima Vision aim to launch the first Ophthalmology Specialist Education Program (PPDS) in Medan. This collaboration aligns with RS Mata Cicendo’s mission to strengthen the Tri Dharma of Higher Education, specifically in education, research, and community service, to produce highly skilled healthcare professionals.
The event featured an exchange of plaques and traditional ulos as a sign of institutional respect, followed by a tour of the hospital's modern facilities.
