ENTREPRENEURSHIP FESTIVAL AS A MEANS TO MOTIVATE THE YOUNG GENERATION
Kopertis Hopes Unpri Entrepreneurship Festival Will Continue to Be Successful and Competitive Every Year
The Executive Secretary of Kopertis Region 1 North Sumatra - NAD, Drs. Rudi K. Nababan, M.Si., hopes that the Universitas Prima Indonesia (Unpri) Entrepreneurship Festival will continue to be successful and competitive every year.
"The Entrepreneurship Festival with the theme 'Passion of Innovation for Young Generation' is very interesting, because it is related to the hopes of the innovative young generation. This means, how someone who has passion will continue to think about what is built-in in themselves, to make something happen, and they will never stop before something happens", said Rudi Nababan at the Unpri Entrepreneurship Festival 2014 at the Unpri Campus on Jalan Sekip, Medan.
Present at the event were Unpri Advisor, dr. I Nyoman Ehrich Lister, M.Kes., AIFM, Head of Unpri Daily Executive Board (BPH), Dr. Tommy Leonard, S.H., M.Kn, Unpri Rector, Prof. dr. Djakobus Tarigan, AAI, DAAK, Unpri Vice Rector II, Ermi Girsang, SKM, M.Kes., Unpri Advisor, dr. Sofian Wijaya, MHA, Vice Dean of Unpri Faculty of Economics, Hendry, S.E., M.M., Head of Management Undergraduate Study Program, Widya Sari, S.E., M.Si., Head of Unpri Public Relations Ramli J. Marpaung, S.H., M.M., the deans and their staff, and the principals of high schools and vocational schools as well as Unpri students.
Rudi Nababan also said that this entrepreneurship festival is one of the means to motivate the younger generation or students. There are two important things related to motivation in entrepreneurship, namely the existence of hope and goals, by involving the introduction and exploitation of business opportunities.
In addition, said Nababan, motivation to develop a new business requires not only self-confidence in terms of its ability to succeed, but also by its ability to access information about entrepreneurial opportunities.
On the same occasion, Nababan also said that data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) in 2011 stated that the open unemployment rate in Indonesia reached 6.8 percent or 8.1 million, and the largest percentage were college graduates, namely 11.5 percent (9.9 percent bachelor's and 1.6 percent diploma).
Every year, this unemployment problem remains a problem that must be resolved. "Not to mention if added to the number of workers who are not full (half-employed and part-time) which amounts to 34.19 percent of the workforce," said Nababan.
This condition, said Nababan, is also supported by the fact that most college graduates tend to be more job seekers than job creators. This is likely due to the learning implemented in various colleges today still focusing on how to prepare students who graduate quickly and get jobs, rather than graduates who are ready to create jobs.
Meanwhile, the Head of the Jobs Fair Committee, Abdi Dharma, S.Kom., expressed his gratitude to all companies that have participated in today's event. According to him, for a college, there are two important things that are the main focus, namely learning issues and career development.

For career development, Abdi said, Unpri deliberately held a Jobs Fair event, as a form of concern for graduates, by facilitating and creating a bridge between alumni and companies that need workers. "This activity is a physical vehicle/facility where workers gather to promote institutions, types of businesses, and especially job vacancies available at the institution," said Abdi.
Meanwhile, the Chairperson of the Committee who is also the Dean of the Faculty of Economics, Unpri, Cut Fitri Rostina, S.E., M.M., added that the Entrepreneurship Festival which carries the theme 'Passion of Innovation for Young Generation' aims to increase the spirit of entrepreneurship among the young generation of Indonesia, especially high school and vocational school students and students in Medan City.
This activity, said Cut Fitri Rostina, is the third time. "Through this activity, we hope to create independent young entrepreneurs who are able to open up job opportunities for other job seekers," she said again.
In line with the government's program that is currently intensively developing the spirit of entrepreneurship, said Cut Fitri, the Faculty of Economics Unpri also wants to support the program.
In this case, her party greatly appreciates the high school and vocational high school students, as well as students who have participated in the Unpri Faculty of Economics Entrepreneurship Festival.
As is known, there are several schools from both high schools and vocational high schools throughout Medan City participating in the Unpri Faculty of Economics Entrepreneurship Festival 2014, and the Unpri Jobs Fair 2014, such as SMKN 1 Medan, SMA Syafiya tul Amaliyah, Methodist 2 High School, Santa Lusia High School, Pengeran Antasari Vocational School, Medan Putri Vocational School, WR Supratman 1 High School, SMAN 1 Labuhan, Saint Ignasius Vocational School Medan, Muhammadiyah 1 High School Medan, State High School 7 Medan, Global Prima National Plus School, State High School 6 Medan, and Yapim High School.
