FKIP UNPRI STUDENTS BECOME SPEAKERS FOR GEMPITA LITERATURE

The Art and Literature Activist Community Movement (GEMPITA) held a poetry performance and literary discussion with the theme "Finding and Developing Writing Ideas" on Friday, September 27, 2019 at Kallery Kafe Jalan Karya No. 209. This activity involved various literary communities throughout North Sumatra consisting of students, college students, and the general public and received a very good response. It was proven that even though the event only opened at 15.00 WIB, one hour before the event, participants had already arrived because they were worried about not getting a seat.

What made the UNPRI community happy was that one of the UNPRI FKIP students was chosen as a speaker. Kasih Kristina Waruwu, a student of the Indonesian Language and Literature Education Study Program, UNPRI FKIP who is also a member of the Campus Children's Writers Community (KOMPAK) was given the honor of delivering material on "Digging up ideas from trivial things".

Through her presentation, Kasih Waruwu stated that simple ideas have extraordinary potential to be made into works. For example, for ordinary people, that night is just an ordinary routine, but for writers who have literary sensitivity, that night is romantic. "For moon worshipers, they only focus on the beauty of light. Whereas without a pitch-black night, the moon would not be special. So the night is actually a source of amazing beauty."

In addition to Kasih Waruwu, GEMPITA also presented a speaker, Muhammad Tommy Lumban Tobing from the Ruang Sastra Community (KORSAS) and also the General Manager of the Unimed Creative Student Press. The material presented was no less interesting, namely "Discussing humans in works". In short, Tommy Lumban Tobing raised the essence of human eternity if he ordained life to glorify life through writing. "Works have a soul that will bring them to life from time to time, just as humans think in order to continue their common sense to continue working."

When asked about GEMPITA activities, Rizkina as a student at the State Islamic University of North Sumatra (UINSU) who is also a member of the DIKSI community, thought that GEMPITA activities were very useful, especially for novice writers.

Titan Sadewo, a UMSU student who is active in the FOKUS community, said that GEMPITA activities were also very interesting because there was poetry reading. "Usually poetry reading performances are in cultural parks, on campus or schools. This was held in a cafe, showing that poetry can also be enjoyed by the public."

Meanwhile, the general chairman of GEMPITA, Boy Pratama Sembiring, said that the purpose of holding the literary performance and discussion "Discovering and Developing Writing Ideas" in the cafe was indeed to bring literature closer to the community. "Literature also has an important role in making the nation's life smarter. If the community can be brought closer to literature, it is hoped that the love for literary works will also increase, so that community-based literacy can be maximized."
