Dr. RE Nainggolan, M.M., who was recently named as the Smart City driving icon in Medan, seemed enthusiastic and aggressive in realizing Smart City. According to him, Smart City is a concept of a smart city, which can help people manage existing resources efficiently and provide accurate information to the community or institutions in carrying out their activities or anticipating unexpected events.
RE Nainggolan explained that Smart City is a dream of almost all countries in the world. With Smart City, various data and information in every corner of the city can be collected through sensors installed in every corner of the city, analyzed with smart applications, then presented according to user needs through applications that can be accessed.
In this case, RE Nainggolan hopes that the Medan City Government (Pemko) has prepared itself to transform into a Smart City, namely a technology-based city. Because the goal of a government is the welfare of the community.
According to RE Nainggolan, Medan must enter and rush towards a smart city. Because with Smart City, people can get better service much faster.
Because, said RE Naingolan, there are three main components of Smart City. With Smart City, sensors that can detect how problems occur in the middle of the city can be known, such as we can immediately know where the damaged roads are and where the congested roads are in Medan City. "Thus, the Medan City Government can quickly solve its problems," he said.
RE Nainggolan also said that Medan is the time to succeed. In relation to this, there are six dimensions of Smart City that need to be known, namely Smart Economy, Smart Mobility, smart environment (environment), smart people (creativity and capital), smart living (quality of life) and smart governance (empowerment and participation).
In Indonesia, he said, there are already several cities that have implemented the Smart City concept including Bandung, Balikpapan, Makasar, Surabaya and Bandung.
On the same occasion, Dr. Erna Budhiarti Nababan, M.IT., from the University of North Sumatra (USU) explained that in essence, Smart City is a concept of an intelligent city, which can help the people in it, by managing existing resources effectively and efficiently to improve the quality of life of people who live in the city.
Meanwhile, Ir. Zulfiantoro Tanjung, M.Eng, Sc., Electrical Expert from the Riau Islands explained about the security of public service information systems. According to him, this information security (secure) is an effort to protect against various threats to ensure business continuity, minimize business risks and increase investment and business opportunities.
Meanwhile, Arjon Turnip, PhD., from the Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI) in his presentation said that in the current era of globalization, the importance of cooperation between universities, research institutions and industry is unavoidable. In this case, he said LIPI encourages the development of ideas to develop integrated cooperation, as a form of implementing community service.
Through cooperation with external parties, he said, it is hoped that there will be sharing of experiences, knowledge and fresearch facilities, so that in turn it can improve the quality of research, the number of publications and technology.
Unpri Advisor Dr. RE Nainggolan, M.M., who was recently named as the Icon driving Smart City in Medan, seemed enthusiastic in giving his presentation on Smart City at the National Seminar with the theme The Role of Academics in Preparing Human Resources to Realize Medan City as a Smart City.
