UNPRI Faculty of Science and Technology, in collaboration with the Ministry of Communication and Digital (Komdigi), Holds a Data Scientist Competency Assessment for Informatics Engineering Students from an Excellent-Accredited (“Unggul”) Study Program

UNPRI, Medan — The Bachelor’s Study Program in Informatics Engineering under the Faculty of Science and Technology at Universitas Prima Indonesia (FAST-UNPRI) has officially earned an Unggul (Excellent) accreditation, becoming the first among private universities (PTS) in North Sumatra—and even on the island of Sumatra—to attain this proud achievement. This milestone proves UNPRI’s academic excellence among other private higher-education institutions and affirms that the program is a top choice for prospective students interested in information technology, especially aspiring Data Scientists. Under the leadership of Dean Prof. Ir. Bhakti Alamsyah, MT., Ph.D., and Head of Program Dr. Yennimar, S.Pd., M.Kom., the curriculum and best practices have been prepared to build student competencies for the digital era, including professional competency assessments by the National Agency for Professional Certification (BNSP).
To strengthen students’ practical skills, FAST UNPRI held a Data Scientist Competency Assessment on 29–31 October 2025. The Competency Test Center (TUK) was located on the 18th floor of UNPRI’s Main Building, Jl. Sampul No. 3, Medan Petisah, using the Associate Data Scientist scheme. This activity was a collaboration between FAST-UNPRI and the Ministry of Communication and Digital (Komdigi), which appointed the Digital Technology Professional Certification Institute (LSP-TD) as the organizer. The assessment served as a concrete implementation to prepare students for high competitiveness in the digital technology and data science sectors.
A Data Scientist is responsible for collecting, analyzing, and interpreting large datasets—both structured and unstructured—using statistics, programming, and machine learning to produce valuable business insights. Around 35 fifth- and seventh-semester students took the assessment, examined by two assessors, Ari Usman, ST, M.Kom., and Indra Kelana Jaya, ST, M.Kom., who ensured each participant demonstrated competencies aligned with professional standards. This competency assessment also evidences that UNPRI graduates possess practical skills and are ready to work in data-driven industries.
The competency assessment conducted at FAST UNPRI evaluated students’ skills, knowledge, and attitudes comprehensively, emphasizing the three core elements known as KSA: Knowledge, Skill, and Attitude. Once declared competent, students will receive BNSP certificates. This official government-recognized certification becomes vital proof of professional competence sought by employers, supporting students’ chances of being accepted by leading companies and complementing their diplomas. In this way, UNPRI students gain not only academic knowledge but also industry-relevant practical experience.
“This competency assessment is not merely a formality; it is an important instrument to ensure that FAST UNPRI Informatics Engineering students in semesters 5 and 7 possess the capabilities needed when they enter the profession after graduating with a bachelor’s degree. Thank you to Komdigi and LSP-TD for this opportunity and collaboration—may it continue and be sustainable,” said Dhanny Rukmana Manday, S.T., M.T., Vice Dean III of FAST UNPRI, who on 29 October 2025 was appointed by Komdigi as an Instructor for the Associate Data Scientist Refreshment, delivering practice and insights related to data-science learning.
