The vision that marked the beginning of UNPRI’s historic journey.
Prof. I Nyoman Ehrich Lister is an academic, physician, professor, researcher, and entrepreneur who played an important role in the founding history of Universitas Prima Indonesia (UNPRI). Driven by a vision to expand access to health education, the journey began in 2001 through the Prima Medan Academy of Nursing and Academy of Midwifery.
Drawing on his experience in medicine and academia, Prof. I Nyoman Ehrich Lister expanded his vision beyond the boundaries of an educational institution. He developed the Prima Group Ecosystem, an integrated concept that brings together education through universities and schools, healthcare services, as well as commercial and residential developments through malls and apartments. It is an ecosystem designed so that education, health, everyday life, and business opportunities can grow side by side.
Before becoming a university, the story had already begun.
UNPRI’s beginnings grew from nursing and midwifery education, developed into a college of health sciences, and then entered a new chapter as Universitas Prima Indonesia in 2005.

2000s
UNPRI was officially established, with Belanga Campus becoming the first campus of Universitas Prima Indonesia.
On October 13, 2005, Universitas Prima Indonesia was officially established. In this early phase, Belanga Campus became UNPRI’s first campus and the starting point for the institution’s development.
UNPRI expanded its educational facilities through Sekip Campus and Singkarak Campus.
In 2009, UNPRI established Sekip Campus and Singkarak Campus. This milestone expanded learning capacity and supported the growth of the university’s academic activities.
2010s
The establishment of Katamso Campus strengthened UNPRI’s educational infrastructure.
In 2010, UNPRI established Katamso Campus as part of its infrastructure development to support the growth of higher education.
Prima Dental and Oral Hospital was established to strengthen the clinical education ecosystem.
In 2012, UNPRI established Prima Dental and Oral Hospital, strengthening educational facilities and clinical services in the field of dentistry.
The establishment of Royal Prima Hospital Medan expanded UNPRI’s health education ecosystem.
In 2014, Royal Prima Hospital Medan was established. Its presence strengthened the health education environment and clinical services connected to UNPRI’s academic development.
UNPRI opened four master’s programs and expanded its postgraduate education.
In 2016, UNPRI opened Master’s programs in Management, Accounting, Law, and Indonesian Language Education.
Three new master’s programs expanded UNPRI’s academic capacity.
In 2017, UNPRI opened Master’s programs in Public Health, Biomedical Sciences, and Notarial Law.
Five new programs strengthened health education and professional pathways.
In 2018, UNPRI opened Bachelor’s programs in Clinical Pharmacy and Midwifery, the Midwifery Professional Program, and Master’s programs in Tropical Medicine and Clinical Medicine.
UNPRI expanded its doctoral level and interdisciplinary professional programs.
In 2019, UNPRI opened the Doctoral Program in Medical Sciences, the Master’s Program in Dental Sciences, and the Applied Bachelor’s Program in Mandarin for Business and Professional Communication.
2020s
The medical programs earned “A” accreditation, and UNPRI opened the Doctoral Program in Management.
In 2020, the Bachelor of Medical Education and Medical Doctor Professional Program became UNPRI’s first study programs to earn “A” accreditation. In the same year, UNPRI opened the Doctoral Program in Management.
Sampul Campus marked a new phase in the development of UNPRI’s integrated facilities.
In 2021, UNPRI established Sampul Campus with integrated facilities designed to international standards. The 23-story Main Campus then became one of the key icons of the university’s academic development.
Program quality strengthening continued alongside the launch of architecture and specialist programs.
In 2022, the Master’s in Dental Sciences, Master’s in Clinical Medicine, and Doctoral Program in Medical Sciences earned Excellent accreditation. UNPRI also opened the Bachelor’s in Architecture and Specialist Program in Primary Care Medicine.

UNPRI expanded its educational network to Pekanbaru and continued strengthening academic quality.
In 2023, UNPRI opened three programs at its off-main-campus location in Pekanbaru: Bachelor’s in Management, Bachelor’s in Information Systems, and Bachelor’s in Psychology. Accreditation strengthening and the launch of strategic programs also continued.

UNPRI earned “Excellent” Institutional Accreditation and continued its academic expansion.
In 2024, Universitas Prima Indonesia earned “Excellent” institutional accreditation. UNPRI also expanded its programs in Pekanbaru, opened a Master’s in Nursing, and added more study programs with Excellent accreditation.
