UNPRI Faculty of Law and Binjai District Attorney's Office Sign MoA

Medan – The Faculty of Law of Universitas Prima Indonesia (UNPRI) and the Binjai District Attorney's Office, signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA), as a form of official cooperation aimed at strengthening institutional relations and improving the quality of education and legal skills of students.

The signing was carried out on Tuesday (11/5/2024) at the Binjai District Attorney's Office. Several important points are usually covered in the MoA, including the Internship Program, where the MoA allows UNPRI Faculty of Law students to take part in an internship program at the Binjai District Attorney's Office. Through this internship, students can gain practical experience on how the legal process and the duties of prosecutors are carried out in the field.

Then Guest Lectures or Seminars, where the UNPRI Faculty of Law can hold guest lectures or seminars by inviting Prosecutors from the Binjai District Attorney's Office as speakers. This helps students gain first-hand insight from practitioners on various legal issues and relevant cases.

Furthermore, Research and Development, where through this collaboration also includes joint research activities in the field of law, which can benefit both students and the prosecutor's office. This research can focus on legal issues that are currently of public concern or are specific to the needs of the Binjai area.

In addition, it is also for the benefit of Trial Simulations. To improve students' practical skills, the Binjai District Attorney's Office can assist in organizing trial simulations on campus. Students can experience the atmosphere of the courtroom and learn to understand the role of prosecutors in the legal process.

Then, Improving HR Competence. The Binjai District Attorney's Office also has the potential to provide training or workshops to students, to improve their understanding of criminal law, prosecution procedures, and other skills that are important in legal practice.

Also intended for Community Service. This MoA can involve community service activities that are carried out collaboratively, such as legal counseling to the community in Binjai. This will help improve legal understanding in the community as well as being a learning tool for students.

In general, this MoA aims to provide more applicable direct learning opportunities for students of the Faculty of Law, while also assisting the Binjai District Attorney's Office in carrying out its educational and community service missions in the legal field.

Dean of the Faculty of Law UNPRI, Dr. Elvira Fitriyani Pakpahan, S.HI., M.Hum said, she hopes that the synergy between the Faculty of Law UNPRI and the Binjai District Attorney's Office can have a real impact, both for the academic world and the wider community.

"Legal education that is oriented towards field needs is essential, and we greatly appreciate the involvement of the Attorney General's Office in supporting education and training for our students. We are sure that this collaboration will add practical insight that is very necessary for those who will be directly involved in law enforcement in the future," said Dr. Elvira Fitriyani Pakpahan, S.HI., M.Hum.

Meanwhile, Kajari Binjai Jufri SH.MH said that the Tridharma of Higher Education which includes education, research, and community service is the main pillar in producing superior human resources.

"Through this MoA, we hope to contribute in creating a young generation who not only has theoretical knowledge, but also a strong understanding of legal practices in the field. We welcome the involvement of UNPRI Faculty of Law students to learn and gain direct experience in our institution. This is an opportunity for them to hone their skills, learn legal procedures, and understand the various dynamics that exist in law enforcement institutions," he explained.

In addition to education, this MoA also paves the way for joint research activities between academics and practitioners. "We realize that in-depth and data-based research is very important in encouraging improvements to the legal system. Therefore, we strongly support research initiatives that can be implemented directly, and have a positive impact on legal services to the community," he said.

In terms of community service, the Binjai District Attorney's Office hopes that this collaboration can also produce legal education programs that are beneficial to the Binjai community.

"Increasing legal awareness in the community is one of our main missions at the Attorney General's Office, and we are confident that through collaboration with the UNPRI Faculty of Law, this goal can be achieved more effectively," he concluded.
