UNPRI and the North Sumatra Indonesian Herbal Council Hold the First Indonesian Herbal Medicine Olympiad



Medan, As a follow-up to the MoA between the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences, Prima Indonesia University (UNPRI) and the Indonesian Herbal Medicine Council of North Sumatra, held the Ist Indonesian Herbal Medicine Olympiad. This activity was centered in the Main Hall, Floor 10, Prima University Campus Indonesia (UNPRI), Medan, which will be held from 18-28 November 2024.

The Olympics, which carries the theme "Revitalization of Jamu as an Archipelago Heritage in the Digital Era", carries out a series of activities, such as a kindergarten level coloring competition with the theme Jamu, a KTI Writing Competition at high school/equivalent level with the theme Jamu, as well as a Jamu product stand competition and seminars held. held simultaneously, Saturday (30/11/2024).

Committee Chair Ameilia Zuliyanti Siregar M.Sc, Ph.D said that the implementation of the Olympics was possible thanks to collaboration between the Indonesian Herbal Medicine Council of North Sumatra and the UNPRI Clinical Pharmacy Study Program. In the Olympics, various activities were held. The seminar was attended by 500 people from various agencies and institutions, then UNPRI students.

The seminar presented speakers Prof. Dr. apt. Poppy Anjelisa Zaitun Hasibuan, S.Si., MSi., Prof, Dr, dr, H. Gusbakti Rusip, M.Sc, Sp, KKLP, PKK, AIFM, AIFO-K. moderated by Dr.dr.Linda Chiuman, M.K.M., M.Biomed.

The opening of the seminar was also attended by the General Secretary of the Indonesian Herbal Medicine Council of North Sumatra, who is also the Chair of the UNPRI Clinical Pharmacy Undergraduate Study Program apt.Razoki, S.Si, M.Kes, M.Biomed, M.H, Chair of GP Jamu Sumatra apt. Dra. Elvy Oktima, Deputy Dean II Dr.Santy Deasy Siregar, SKM., M.Kes., Deputy Dean IV Dr.drg.Susanto, M.Kes. as well as other invitations.

Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences Prof, Dr, dr, H Gusbakti Rusip, MSc, Sp, KKLP, PKK, AIFM, AIFO-K, in his speech said, regarding the existence of herbal medicine, currently is a new era in where this herbal medicine will be scientific, scientific. "We continue to fight so that this herbal medicine becomes more widely known," said Gusbakti.

In the past, this herbal medicine, he continued, was a legacy passed down from generation to generation, especially on the island of Java. In the past, it was known as herbal medicine. However, now many traders sell herbal medicine on motorbikes. "So the hope is that in the future this herbal medicine will be accepted by all groups, including the younger generation," he stressed.

Chairman of the Indonesian Herbal Council of North Sumatra, Budi, SE, MM, said that young people today do not like to use herbal medicine products in Indonesia. Teenagers are more familiar with products originating from Korea. In fact, Korea itself cannot be separated from herbal medicine whose raw materials are sourced from Indonesia.

“This herbal medicine can make users look more youthful. "Jamu also does not damage body organs for people who consume it when they are sick," said Budi, who is also a member of the North Sumatra DPRD, Commission A in charge of government.

On that occasion, Budi admitted that he had experienced serious illness due to an acute infection. Because of his illness, the virus caused him to have foot surgery and he couldn't walk for four months. In fact, he had to consume 20 to 30 chemical drugs per day. In such conditions, many fears are due to the effects of the drugs consumed. Then he was introduced to natural ingredients (herbs). And finally, he didn't need to undergo surgery and he recovered from the illness he suffered.

Meeting separately, the Head of the Clinical Pharmacy Undergraduate Study Program, Razoki, said that an Olympics like this would become a routine activity every year to introduce herbal medicine to the whole community. "We hope that in the future, activities like this will receive attention and assistance from the government and related agencies to accelerate national pharmaceutical independence," concluded Razoki.
