Line Follower Robot Assembly Training by UNPRI Electrical Engineering Study Program for SMA Global Prima Medan Students



Medan, Electrical Engineering Study Program, Faculty of Science and Technology, Universitas Prima Indonesia (FAST UNPRI), provided Line Follower Robot Assembly Training to 9th and 10th grade students of SMA Global Prima Medan, Friday (3/14/2025) at the UNPRI Campus, Jln.Sampul No. 3 Medan, which was attended by 150 students of SMA Global Prima Medan, accompanied by 6 teachers.

The purpose of the training is so that SMA Global Prima students can assemble line follower robots correctly and function, before the robot competition contest is held. "Providing a basic understanding of how line follower robots work using components, such as infrared sensors that function as input to detect black line paths or circuits, then Arduino Uno which functions as control from input to output through a DC motor driver to move the DC motor," said Winner Parluhutan Nainggolan, ST.M.Kom, Head of Electrical Engineering Study Program FAST UNPRI as a resource person.

Parluhutan Nainggolan, ST.M.Kom explained, Line Follower Robot is a robot that can move by reading lines as a movement map, while Maze Solver is the same. So what's the difference? The difference is that the Line Follower Robot moves automatically based on the lines read by the robot, while Maze Solver needs to be programmed first for its movement if it has read a line.

Line Follower robot is a type of robot that is included in the category of mobile robots that are designed to work autonomously or without control and have the ability to detect and move following (Follows) lines on the surface. The control system in the Line Follower used in this robot is designed to be able to detect the path (black line) that exists and make movements to stay on the path.



Basically this robot is made for research, competition, and industry purposes. However, as time goes by, this robot is of interest to those who are just learning and entering the field of robotics. Even now there are many robot competitions that hold it. In the industrial world, this robot is useful for lifting goods from one place to another autonomously, in other words, this robot does not need to be driven or controlled by someone so that it can reduce the risk of human error that often occurs.

A number of SMA Global Prima students said that they had received input and understanding in assembling line follower robots. "With this activity, there is more togetherness and sustainability in robotics activities. Hopefully in the future there will continue to be increased cooperation between the UNPRI Electrical Study Program and SMA Global Prima Medan.
