UNPRI, Medan – The Faculty of Science and Technology (FAST) at Universitas Prima Indonesia (UNPRI) continues to strengthen its role as a socio-technopreneurship-based university by launching the Bachelor of Information Systems Program, led by Agung Prabowo, S.Kom., M.Kom.. The program, accredited “Very Good” (Baik Sekali), is designed to produce graduates who can integrate technology, data management, and digital business processes — essential competencies for modern organizations to make fast, secure, and socially impactful decisions.
Unlike Informatics Engineering (Computer Science), which focuses on computation theory, algorithms, and software development, Information Systems emphasizes technology in an organizational context — how data is collected, analyzed, used to support business processes, and managed securely to benefit users. In short, Informatics focuses on “how to build” (software/algorithms), while Information Systems focuses on “how technology solves business problems” and human-system interaction. This distinction aligns with the latest international curriculum framework for Information Systems education.
“The latest curriculum guideline for the Information Systems program adopts the Outcome-Based Education (OBE) approach, emphasizing interdisciplinary capabilities such as organizational needs analysis, data management, user-centered design, information security, and data ethics and governance. These competencies are taught through hands-on, practical learning experiences, ensuring that graduates not only understand technology but can also design secure, reliable, and regulatory-compliant solutions,” explained Agung.
He added, “The OBE-based curriculum implemented at UNPRI, especially in the Bachelor of Information Systems Program, is aimed at increasing the relevance of Information Systems in critical sectors such as healthcare and hospital management — a natural fit, considering UNPRI’s reputation as a private university with the largest number of healthcare facilities in Indonesia.”
