UNPRI FKIP Student Wins 1st Place in the National English Public Speaking Competition at Universitas Negeri Malang

UNPRI, Medan — Students of the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education at Universitas Prima Indonesia (FKIP-UNPRI) have achieved a brilliant national distinction. Jessy Aurica, a 2024 cohort student of the English Education Study Program (PBI) at FKIP UNPRI, won First Place in the national Public Speaking Competition at DoE VOICE 2025 (Department of English Virtual Outreach and Innovation in Creative Expression), organized by Universitas Negeri Malang, East Java, on Thursday (21/08/2025). This prestigious event was open to the public and joined by leading universities from across Indonesia, serving as a proving ground for students’ communication skills and English proficiency.
Jessy competed online, delivering with confidence, clear articulation, and an inspiring message through a video she produced and submitted to the judges. In this competition, she addressed the theme “The Importance of Self-Confidence in Facing Future Challenges in the Global Era.” The winners were announced shortly after the videos were submitted, with no preliminary round.
“I’m truly grateful for this achievement—winning first place was beyond my expectations. I hope to keep improving my public speaking skills. May this result inspire all my friends, especially UNPRI students, to take part in public speaking competitions so we can achieve even more in the future,” Jessy said with enthusiasm.
High appreciation was expressed by Yenita Br. Sembiring, S.S., M.Hum., Head of the English Education Study Program at FKIP UNPRI, who conveyed her pride in her student’s achievement. According to her, this success is concrete proof that UNPRI students excel not only academically but also in public speaking—an essential asset in the professional world. “Our student’s achievement shows that learning in UNPRI’s English Education Study Program produces graduates who are creative, confident, and communicative. We will continue to provide the best support and facilities to hone students’ potential so they can compete nationally and internationally,” Yenita explained.
Meanwhile, the Dean of FKIP UNPRI, Dr. Dian Syahfitri, S.S., M.Hum., also expressed appreciation for this proud accomplishment. She noted that public speaking in English is a special skill highly needed in today’s global world. “Not everyone can speak well in public—let alone in English. Jessy is an exceptional case: she has both strong public speaking ability and solid English mastery. This proves that choosing UNPRI’s English Education Study Program is the right step, because the career opportunities are broad and global—not only to become a teacher,” she said.
Dr. Dian further added that FKIP UNPRI remains committed to delivering adaptive education rooted in IT-based socio-technopreneurship, in line with UNPRI’s vision and mission for the times.
