UNPRI Set to Become the First Private University in Sumatra to Offer Clinical Psychologist Professional Education
Historical Milestones in Higher Education and Leading the Deployment of Certified Mental Health Professionals Across Sumatra.

Medan, May 18, 2026 — Universitas Prima Indonesia (UNPRI) has officially declared its readiness to open Clinical Psychologist Professional Education. This strategic move will make UNPRI the first Private University (PTS) in Sumatra to offer such a program. This statement was delivered during a strategic meeting with the Indonesian Clinical Psychology Collegium, the Indonesian Health Council, and the Primary Care Family Medicine Specialist Collegium, held at the UNPRI Meeting Room, Jl. Sampul No. 3, Medan, on Monday (May 18, 2026).
This important meeting was attended directly by the Chairperson of the Indonesian Health Council, Drg. Aryanti Anaya, M.K.M. and her team, a representative from the Indonesian Clinical Psychology Collegium, Dr. I. L. Gamayanti, M.Si. (Psychologist), and a representative from the Primary Care Family Medicine Specialist Collegium, Dr. dr. Dhanasari Vidiawati, M.Sc.CM-FM, Sp.KKLP. Representing UNPRI were Rector Prof. Dr. Chrismis Novalinda Ginting, M.Kes., Vice Rector IV Dr. dr. Ali Napiah Nasution, M.K.T., M.K.M., Sp.KKLP(K)., as well as deans, bureau heads, and institutional leaders within the university.

The introduction of this program is a response to the urgent national need in the health sector. Current primary health service policies in Indonesia mandate the availability of at least one clinical psychologist in every community health center (Puskesmas). However, in reality, Indonesia still lacks approximately 11,000 clinical psychologists. To date, study programs producing these specialists are still very limited at the national level, as most higher education institutions only offer general psychology programs.
The Rector of UNPRI, Prof. Dr. Chrismis Novalinda Ginting, M.Kes., emphasized that the university, along with the foundation, provides full support for the implementation of this Clinical Psychologist Professional Education. To support the program's future, UNPRI will also develop collaborations with various health facilities as educational venues for practical training. This proves UNPRI's commitment to facilitating student talent to become competent and high-quality graduates.

Two concrete forms of cooperation were agreed upon during the meeting. First, the opening of the Acceleration Bridge Program (Program Titian Percepatan) for general psychology graduates, which is an additional six-month education to acquire clinical psychology competencies.
