FE UNPRI Holds 18th National Seminar: Writing a Scopus Standard Journal
Seminar to Improve Lecturer Publications
The Faculty of Economics, Universitas Prima Indonesia (FE UNPRI) is once again holding a national seminar. The 18th National Seminar raised the theme, "Writing a SCOPUS Standard Journal", taking place at the UNPRI Main Campus Hall, 10th Floor, Jalan Sampul Medan, Saturday (8/27/2022).
In this 18th National Seminar, FE UNPRI presented two keynote speakers from within and outside the country. The first speaker was Matondang Elsa Siburian, a STAN lecturer who is also active as a researcher, while the second speaker was Dr. Norliza Hamir Basah BIBM (Hons), MBA, Ph.D.Dip (PGDHELT), a researcher and lecturer at the University of Utara Malaysia. This national seminar was moderated by the Head of the S1 Management Study Program, Yeni Ariesta, S.E, MSi.
Dr. Matondang Elsa Siburian as the first speaker delivered tips & tricks to S1, S2, S3 study program students and FE UNPRI lecturers regarding the procedures for publishing scientific papers in Scopus indexed journals. "Academic journals must be evidence based, present arguments, provide information and must be reviewed, use formal language, provide facts, be clear, concise," she said.
Dr. Matondang Elsa Siburian with an educational background of 10 years studying in Tokyo, Japan continued that the most basic thing about a research work is KISS (keep it short-simple-sexy). Mental factors are also an important aspect that supports research, as explained by her. "Then you have to enjoy writing, if not, relax first. If you are in a bad mood, go to the mall first, then you will be fresher and more enjoyable. Remember, DIY (do it yourself), don’t be shy, addiction”
Next, the introduction or background of a paper must be interesting, we must state what factors underlie a research to be conducted, objectives (what is the purpose of this research), novelty (there is an element of novelty) and must have a logical and coherent argument structure (what is the content of chapter 1, chapter 2 etc.), literature reviews from current journals and clear research methodology.
“State an interesting conclusion. Very often reviewers only read the introduction and conclusion, because there are many papers that must be corrected. Read, write, teach (read paper/book/magazine then we will understand. Then write what we read, and then teach what we wrote. If it is rejected, that's normal, so upgrade and send it to another journal. If we fall 7 times but get up 8 times, that's good, it means we don't drown, we are able to get up", he concluded.
Dr. Norliza Hamir Basah BIBM (Hons), MBA, PhD. Dip (PGDHELT) delivered the material with a similar line of thought to that presented by Dr. Matondang Elsa Siburian. Dr. Norliza emphasized the originality of the article, then the novelty or newness and specialness of the article compared to articles from other people, and how to avoid predatory journals.
The 18th National Seminar was attended by 500 participants, consisting of lecturers and students of FE UNPRI
In front of approximately 500 seminar participants, Dean of FE UNPRI, Cut Fitri Rostina S.E, M.Si said that amidst the limitations of face-to-face meetings so far, we should be grateful that today we can hold a national seminar offline.
"Articles published in Scopus indexed journals are everyone's dream, many benefits are obtained by researchers, lecturers and students. "Keep doing research, hopefully we can benefit from this seminar," he said.
Previously, Vice Rector III Unpri, Said Rizal SHI, MA opened the 18th National Seminar of FE UNPRI. Representing the Chancellor of UNPRI, Said Rizal hopes that after this seminar there will be collaborative research between lecturers and students that is published in Scopus indexed journals.
"Hopefully the 18th National Seminar held by FE UNPRI will run well and smoothly. Hopefully after this seminar more and more FE UNPRI lecturers will produce the best works. Hopefully there will be collaborative research between lecturers and students that will be published in Scopus indexed journals," he said.
