Lecturers and Students of FE UNPRI Hold Community Service at Pelita Harapan Orphanage

A number of Permanent Lecturers of the Faculty of Economics, Universitas Prima Indonesia (UNPRI) Medan held Community Service (PKM) to the Pelita Harapan Foundation Orphanage on Jln.Cangkir Medan, Medan Petisah District, Sunday (5/28/2023).

The Permanent Lecturers of FE UNPRI consist of two groups. Group I consists of Winda Sri Astuti Doloksaribu, SE, MSi NIDN: 0103028105 (Chairperson) with members including Purnama Yanti Purba, SE, M.M (0107118403), Esther Praja Anggriany Panggabean, SE, MSi (0111068201), Maisara Batubara, SE, MSi (0106058805), Devi Alvionita Alindra, S.S, M.Si (0101089101) and Mangasi Butarbutar, SE, M.M (0101016316). Group I held a PKM with the theme "Socialization of Soft Skill Development".

Representing Group I, Mangasi Butarbutar SE, MM asked the children of the Pelita Harapan Foundation Orphanage that to be successful in the future, it is not enough to rely on just a diploma.

"You must add soft skills or additional competencies, such as honesty, discipline, responsibility, being able to work in a team, being creative, having initiative, thinking out of the box, thinking critically and including mastering a foreign language," he said.

Meanwhile, Esther Praja Anggriany Panggabean, SE, MSi, provided training to the children of the Pelita Harapan Foundation Orphanage. Children are trained in crafts, namely recycling used mineral water bottles into attractive pencil cases and piggy banks, which can even be sold to add to pocket money and buy other school supplies.

While training children to make pencil cases and piggy banks, Esther also provides education to children about the use of sharp objects such as scissors and cutters, so that they are accompanied and supervised by older teenagers.

Meanwhile, Group II consists of Rahmat Alamsyah SP.MSi (Chairman), with members Ninta Katharina SE M.Si (0122087801), Agus Tina, S.Ak., M.Ak., BKP. (0128088303), Lidya Natalia Pasaribu, S.Ak., M.M (0118109401), Kristi Endah Ndilosa Ginting, SE., MM (0108038903) and Afriza Amir, S.E., M.Si (0115109001). Group II held a PKM with the theme "Socialization of Gadget Use".

Representing Group II, Kristi Endah Ndilosa Ginting, SE., MM asked the children of the Pelita Harapan Foundation Orphanage to be smart and remain careful in using gadgets. "The use of gadgets has positive and negative impacts. Learn the use of gadgets for positive digitalization, for example for learning and science and technology, use them to communicate well according to the corridor, according to reasonable limits. Avoid negative use of gadgets, such as bullying, hoaxes, hate speech and slander. Don't violate the ITE Law," he said.

In addition to holding a socialization of soft skills and gadget development, the two groups of lecturers also provided basic food assistance to the children of the Pelita Harapan Foundation Orphanage, represented by the Head of the Orphanage April Giawa.

In the midst of the PKM of the two groups of permanent lecturers of FE UNPRI, a number of FE UNPRI students who are members of Spreading Happiness together with Field Supervisors (DPL) also held an MBKM Humanitarian Project. The MBKM student group provided basic food assistance in the form of rice, sugar, cooking oil, cakes, eggs, instant noodles, used clothes that are still suitable for use and other donations.

After having lunch together, the MBKM students also invited the children of the orphanage to sing together and play games, including guessing pictures, guessing objects, arranging words, a fairy tale entitled "Tigers and Mouse Deer".

"In addition to providing basic food assistance, we want to spread joy to the children of this orphanage through singing together and playing games. They even entertained us, other students and lecturers, with songs they presented. We are happy that the children of this orphanage welcomed our presence with joy,” said Calvin Hutagalung as the coordinator of MBKM students.

At the end of the event, the Head of the Pelita Harapan Foundation Orphanage, April Giawa, expressed her gratitude to the lecturers and students who had come and provided assistance.

“So far, the community who have come to this place have only provided assistance, and rarely entertained our children, such as playing games and practicing handicrafts. Hopefully, the parents and students of MBKM FE Unpri Medan will be given health, smoothness and success. God bless everything you do, "he concluded.
