Undergraduate Computer Engineering Students of FAST UNPRI Successfully Publish in Reputable International IEEE Proceedings Indexed by Scopus
Tangible Evidence of Research Excellence and the International Academic Contribution of FAST UNPRI Students
UNPRI, Medan – IEEE refers to the journals published by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). There are approximately 399 Scopus journals indexed by IEEE, covering various fields of engineering and science.
Scopus Publication as an Official Alternative for Final Assignments This scientific publication policy allows all final-semester students to replace the preparation of a thesis with a publication in a reputable international proceeding, such as IEEE indexed by Scopus, among many others, including Elsevier, Springer, Wiley, SAGE Publications, Emerald Publishing, ACM (Association for Computing Machinery), Inderscience Publishers, MDPI (Multidisciplinary Digital Publishing Institute), etc. This choice is provided to encourage a research culture within the campus environment and make it easier for students to participate in the international academic world. UNPRI emphasizes that scientific publication is not only an administrative graduation requirement but also an effort to build a broader track record for students. International publication provides strong academic credibility and opens up job opportunities, scholarships, and cross-country research collaborations. This policy is also aligned with UNPRI's commitment to strengthening scientific culture and encouraging student contributions to global knowledge development.
The Importance of Scopus and the Rigorous Publication Process Scopus itself is the largest database of scientific journals managed by Elsevier, covering more than 24,600 journals, proceedings, scientific books, and patents from all over the world. The Scopus index has become the highest standard for academics because of its strict selection through a peer review process, editorial quality, and publishing consistency. Publishing in these international journals or proceedings not only measures research quality but also strengthens a student's academic reputation. However, the process towards publication is not easy; articles must follow writing guidelines, go through several stages of assessment, and pass impact metric evaluations such as CiteScore, SJR, and SNIP. Therefore, students who choose the publication path must demonstrate a quality of scientific writing that is truly worthy of global recognition.
Four FAST UNPRI Students Successfully Penetrate Scopus This policy is not just a theory; it has been proven through the success of four students from the Faculty of Science and Technology (FAST UNPRI): Mifta UI Rezkia Hasari, Ester Juniati Simanjuntak, Yeni Rahayu Br Sembiring, and Arga Novrian Nainggolan. These four Informatics Engineering students successfully published their scientific work in reputable international proceedings indexed by Scopus, under the guidance of Dr. Mardi Turnip, S.Kom., M.Kom. This achievement proves that UNPRI students are capable of meeting international standards while fulfilling graduation requirements with concrete scientific contributions. Their success serves as an example for other students that international publication is not impossible, but rather a great opportunity for those who are serious, disciplined, and focused on research.
Support from the Rector of UNPRI: Building a Global Track Record The Rector of UNPRI, Prof. Dr. Chrismis Novalinda Ginting, M.Kes., AIFO-K, gives full permission and support for the choice of scientific publication as a student's final assignment. She emphasized that this is a strategic step to prepare UNPRI graduates who are not only academically superior but also have a research track record that can compete at national and international levels. Meanwhile, Dr. Mardi Turnip explained that writing scientific articles requires persistence, patience, and the ability to focus on the issue being studied. “Writing is a fun and challenging process. If done consistently, scientific writing not only fulfills graduation requirements but also provides a meaningful contribution to society,” he said.
UNPRI Presents an Academic Breakthrough Universitas Prima Indonesia (UNPRI) once again demonstrates its position as a leading socio-technopreneurship campus in the country. After its two flagship programs, the Bachelor of Medicine and the Medical Doctor Profession, officially obtained IAAHEH International Accreditation, UNPRI has now launched a new policy that is considered progressive and relevant to current global higher education standards. Through this policy, students are given two options to complete their studies: completing a thesis or choosing a reputable scientific publication as a graduation requirement before participating in graduation. This step is evidence that UNPRI continues to follow global education trends that emphasize innovation, scientific contribution, and internationally recognized academic track records, in line with support for SDGs 4, SDGs 9, SDGs 17.

After achieving IAAHEH international accreditation for two medical study programs, UNPRI is now placing students as part of a productive and competitive global research ecosystem.
