Outstanding UNPRI Industrial Engineering Students Participate in Project-Based Learning with BBPVP Medan, Enhancing Competence through Industry 4.0 Technology
Strategic Collaboration between UNPRI and BBPVP Medan: Industrial Engineering Students Develop Industry 4.0 Era Competencies through Project-Based Learning
UNPRI, Medan – As part of strengthening industry-based practical learning, students from the Industrial Engineering Study Program of the Faculty of Science and Technology at Universitas Prima Indonesia (FAST–UNPRI) participated in a Project Based Learning (PBL) activity, a result of the collaboration between Universitas Prima Indonesia (UNPRI) and the Medan Vocational & Productivity Training Center (BBPVP).
This training program was held for 20 days, starting 09/15/2025 to 10/08/2025, located on the 20th floor of the main UNPRI Campus. This activity is a follow-up to the implementation of the MoU between UNPRI and BBPVP Medan, Ministry of Manpower of the Republic of Indonesia, signed by UNPRI Rector Prof. Dr. Chrismis Novalinda Ginting, M.Kes., AIFO-K., and Head of BBPVP Medan Faried Abdurahman Nur Yuliono, S.STP., M.M., on August 26, 2025, in the main meeting room on the 10th floor of the UNPRI Campus, Jalan Sampul No. 3 Medan Petisah.
The signing of this cooperation is a strategic step for UNPRI as a leading and socio-technopreneurship campus in North Sumatra to strengthen collaboration between the education and industry sectors. Through this vocational-based training program, both institutions are committed to realizing a “link and match” between the campus and the professional world, while encouraging the implementation of Project Based Learning (PBL) and Work Based Learning (WBL) that are relevant to the needs of the modern industrial sector.
In this PBL activity, not only Industrial Engineering students but also students from various other study programs at UNPRI were involved. A total of 144 students from three faculties, namely the Faculty of Agrotechnology (FAT), the Faculty of Science and Technology (FAST), and the Faculty of Economics (FE), participated in nine thematic project packages chosen by UNPRI and aligned with current industrial issues. For FAST–UNPRI Industrial Engineering students, the topic covered was “Logistics Management Through Digital Monitoring and Tracking Technology,” focusing on supply chain system efficiency supported by Industry 4.0 technology.
Several other project themes developed include: hydroponic nutrient automation with a smart nutrition system, irrigation system management based on smart farming, creation of a web-based tourism information system, operation of generative AI tools for digital content and business, and optimization of marketing through social media. The entire project is designed for students to gain direct and in-depth experience in applying industrial concepts, technology, and digital creativity in their respective fields.
The objective of this activity is not only to implement the MoU between institutions but also to equip students with vocational and technical skills in the manufacturing field, as well as to develop capabilities in modern production management. After completing the 20 days of Project Based Learning (PBL) preparation, students are required to undergo another 20 days of Work Based Learning (WBL), which involves field practice at designated locations to directly apply the learned theory in a real work environment.
“Students practice directly using industrial machinery, production process simulation, quality control, and efficient work systems based on Industry 4.0 technology. Through this training, they gain a comprehensive understanding of the manufacturing production process and quality control. This program increases students' readiness for the professional world and strengthens the UNPRI–BBPVP synergy in developing industrial human resources,” explained Dr. Anita Christine Sembiring, S.T., M.T., Head of the UNPRI Industrial Engineering Study Program.
This Project Based Learning (PBL) activity serves as tangible proof of UNPRI's commitment to realizing an “Impactful Campus,” connecting the academic world with the real needs of industry and the nation. With a project-based and practical learning approach, UNPRI continues to produce graduates who are skilled, active, innovative, creative, adaptive, independent, moral, and have a good character with a socio-technopreneurship perspective based on IT and are ready to compete globally towards Indonesia Emas 2045 and becoming a “World Class University.”
With the support of complete facilities and a modern learning system, UNPRI is the right choice for prospective students who want to pursue high-standard industrial engineering education in North Sumatra
