Industrial Engineering Students of FAST-UNPRI Undertake Experiential Learning Internship at Royal Prima General Hospital Medan: A Collaboration Between Industry and Healthcare
Integrating theory and practice through a hospital-based internship program to develop student competencies
UNPRI, Medan – Students from the Industrial Engineering Undergraduate Study Program of the Faculty of Science and Technology (FAST) at Universitas Prima Indonesia (UNPRI) conducted an Experiential Learning-based Internship Program activity at Royal Prima General Hospital (RSU) Medan, Monday (13/10/2025). This activity was attended by five seventh-semester students and is part of the implementation of learning based on direct, impactful experience in the professional world. Through this program, students gain a unique opportunity to understand the application of industrial management principles within the modern healthcare service system operated by RSU Royal Prima Medan, one of UNPRI's excellent facilities.
This internship activity aims to provide students with real-world experience in industrial management within the healthcare services sector, covering service systems, operational efficiency, as well as the preparation and control of hospital logistics. Throughout the program, students are placed in various work units such as logistics, operational management, and hospital administration. They observe the process of the medical supply chain, the management of drug and medical equipment stock, and the efficiency of internal distribution between service units. From this activity, students gain a deep understanding of how industrial principles are applied in a public service environment, particularly in the context of modern hospital management.i.
“This practical work and internship program is part of the experiential learning-based curriculum which receives full support from RSU Royal Prima Medan, providing significant added value for students. Our students learn firsthand how industrial management theory is applied in the field, not just from classroom simulations. The goal is for UNPRI Industrial Engineering graduates to be ready to work in various sectors, possess system analysis capabilities, and be able to manage efficiency and productivity in the real world and provide a positive impact on society,” said Dr. Anita Christine Sembiring, S.T., M.T., as the Head of the UNPRI Industrial Engineering Study Program,.
The UNPRI Industrial Engineering Undergraduate Study Program is one of the seven flagship study programs under the Faculty of Science and Technology (FAST), along with Electrical Engineering, Informatics Engineering, Information Systems, Visual Communication Design, Architecture, and Civil Engineering. With an accreditation rating of "Baik Sekali" (Very Good), the program integrates engineering science, management, and economics to design and optimize industrial systems. Students are equipped with capabilities in system analysis, production management, ergonomics, logistics, and the design of industrial processes relevant to the needs of modern industry and the current global digital transformation era..
In the learning process, FAST-UNPRI Industrial Engineering students study various fields ranging from production system design, quality engineering, cost analysis, logistics and supply chain, to the use of information technology for system simulation and optimization. They are also trained in essential soft skills such as communication, teamwork, leadership, and entrepreneurship. The career prospects for UNPRI Industrial Engineering graduates are very broad, ranging from manufacturing industries, service companies, the government sector, to entrepreneurship. Graduates can pursue careers as industrial engineers, supply chain analysts, quality control engineers, health and safety engineers, and marketing analysts..
