This achievement further enhances UNPRI’s reputation as the leading private university in Medan at the national level.
The Miss Chinese Indonesia pageant, organized by the EL JOHN Indonesia Foundation in collaboration with EL JOHN Pageants, is the sixth edition of the competition. It emphasizes not only physical appearance but also intelligence, character, and participants’ commitment to preserving and promoting Chinese-Indonesian culture. This year’s selection process began with a bootcamp held from November 15–21, 2025, featuring cultural enrichment, educational sessions, digital technology exposure, and public speaking training led by experts and professionals.
Throughout the intensive program, all finalists underwent comprehensive preparation to become role models for Indonesian young women who are confident, globally minded, and deeply rooted in cultural identity.
The competition was evaluated by a distinguished panel of judges chaired by Wani Sabu, Executive Vice President of Contact Centre & Digital Service at BCA. The judging panel also included prominent figures such as Dr. Hasan Karman, S.H., M.M. (Chinese-Indonesian Cultural Expert), Mung Na (Professional Mandarin Teacher), Felicia Kontesa (Miss Chinese Culture Indonesia 2024), and Shince Kielius (Miss Museum Indonesia 2024).
In addition, the honorary jury was led by Jahja Setiaatmadja, President Director of BCA, with members M. Johnnie Sugiarto (Chairman of the EL JOHN Indonesia Foundation) and Abraham Rudy from PSMTI. The presence of nationally respected judges further reinforced the credibility and prestige of the Miss Chinese Indonesia competition.
During the Grand Final round, participants were rigorously selected from the Top 24 to the Top 10, and finally to the Top 6 finalists, who were given the opportunity to deliver a 50-second speech on the theme of Chinese-Indonesian cultural acculturation. The main title of Miss Chinese Indonesia 2025 was awarded to Jong Li Fa from Bangka Belitung.
Nevertheless, Mei Lisa proudly secured the title of Miss Inspirator Chinese Indonesia 2025 in recognition of her dedication, intellectual capability, communication skills, and outstanding proficiency in Mandarin, which was considered the most remarkable among the finalists.
“This has been a beautiful and unforgettable experience. I am truly grateful to represent North Sumatra and UNPRI, the institution where I teach and dedicate my professional service,” said Mei Lisa. She also currently serves as the Secretary of the Applied Bachelor Program in Mandarin Language for Business and Professional Communication, which is the only program of its kind in Sumatra Island and exists in only four provinces across Indonesia.
During the quarantine period, the finalists participated in various character-building activities, cultural immersion programs, and social skill development sessions. They also took part in EL JOHN Fashion Week, the Best Talent Competition at WTC Mangga Dua, and attended a national seminar at the Golden Phoenix Ballroom.
A wide range of cultural performances enriched the pageant, including classical dances, Mandarin and Indonesian vocal performances, theatrical acts, and traditional musical instruments. Through these activities, Miss Chinese Indonesia serves as a platform for young women to introduce Chinese-Indonesian culture in a modern, elegant, and meaningful way.
The CEO & Founder of EL JOHN Indonesia, M. Johnnie Sugiarto, emphasized that this year’s theme, “The Power of Rising Star”, symbolizes the limitless strength and potential of Indonesian young women. He expressed hope that all finalists would become symbols of cultural harmony, inspiration, and resilience in bringing Chinese-Indonesian heritage to the global stage.
“Every woman has the power to shine and inspire her nation,” he stated. Through this achievement, Mei Lisa brings pride to North Sumatra and Universitas Prima Indonesia, demonstrating that a deep appreciation for culture can go hand in hand with professionalism and meaningful contributions to the advancement of education.
