FK UNPRI HOSTS AIPKI REGION I COORDINARY COMMUNITY MEETING

Gubsu: Many Doctors Do Not Want to Practice in Remote Areas

North Sumatra Governor (Gusbu) H. Gatot Pujo Nugroho said, the phenomenon in the community today is that many doctors do not want to practice or be placed in remote areas. This is a matter of commitment for the government, medical schools, and related agencies in providing health services to all levels of society. This was stated by the Governor of North Sumatra when opening the Regional Coordination Meeting (Rakorwil) of the Association of Indonesian Medical Education Institutions (AIPKI) Region I and a seminar on 'Synergy of the Role of Medical Education Institutions, Professional Organizations, Regional Governments in Improving the Quality of Primary Health Services in Indonesia', at the Royal Prima Hospital on Jalan Ayahanda Medan, Friday (10/4), hosted by the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Prima Indonesia (FK Unpri).

The event was attended by the Director General of Health Efforts Development, Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia/Chairman of the National Board DLP Prof. Dr. dr. Akmal Taher Sp.U., Directorate of Institutions and Cooperation, Directorate General of Higher Education represented by dr. Arsita, Head of the Association of Indonesian Medical Education Institutions AIPKI Region I Dr. dr. H. M Zulkarnaen M.Med., Sc PKK, Secretary of AIPKI dr. Mariatul Fadillah, MARS., Head of Unpri Advisors, dr. I Nyoman Ehrich Lister, M.Kes., AIFM., Head of BPH Unpri, Dr. Tommy Leonard, S.H., M.Kn. Rector of Unpri, Prof. dr. Djakobus Tarigan, AAI., DAAK., Dean of FK Unpri, dr. H. Yulitas Bachtiar, Sp.A, Vice Dean I of FK Unpri dr. Ali Napiah Nasution, Vice Rector II, Ermi Girsang, SKM, M.Kes., Advisor to Unpri dr. Sofian Wijaya, M.H.A., who represented a number of medical faculties such as USU Medical Faculty, UISU Medical Faculty, UMI Medical Faculty, UMSU Medical Faculty, HKBp Nomensen Medical Faculty and lecturers from Unpri Medical Faculty.

"The phenomenon found in North Sumatra today, many doctors do not want to practice in remote places. Moreover, usually, there are children of officials who study at the Faculty of Medicine, when they want to do an internship, they only want to go to one that is close to Medan City," said Gatot Pujo Nugroho. Even on that occasion, Gatot said, the medical profession currently has a low social value. There are many facts and news in the media, there are patients who are not served by a doctor just because the patient is poor.

According to him, this is a problem, a problem of commitment and a problem of willingness that must be resolved. Therefore, he said, the AIPKI Regional Coordination Meeting was not just a ceremony, but could contribute concrete steps and recommendations from the deans of medical faculties, assistant deans and lecturers in producing doctors.

"If I may leave a message, that in the lecture process, moral, spiritual, and piety material in the medical profession must also be inserted," said Gatot. As initiated by the President, a Mental Revolution is needed, especially in the health sector. What must be done is for lecturers from universities, how can they create a mental revolution through the learning process.

"Through this activity, hopefully there will be a commitment from me, a commitment from IDI, a commitment from the deans, a commitment from all of us health practitioners so that our nation, especially in North Sumatra, can produce Human Resources (HR) who are intelligent, healthy, and have spiritual, emotional and intellectual abilities," he said.

As a resource person at the seminar, the Director General of Health Efforts Development of the Indonesian Ministry of Health/Chairman of the National Board DLP Prof. Dr. dr. Akmal Taher, SpU, explained about primary health services in Indonesia, past, present and future.

Meanwhile, the Director of the Directorate of Institutions and Cooperation of the Directorate General of Higher Education represented by dr. Arsita explained about the steps and policies of Higher Education in supporting the implementation of the primary service doctor (DLP) program.

Head of AIPKI Region I Dr. dr. H. M Zulkarnaen, M.Med, Sc PKK said that the regional government as a user of doctors in primary health services also plays an important role in providing the necessary facilities and infrastructure, with the change in the KKNI level. So that health workers, especially doctors who work in primary services, can work optimally, in accordance with their competency functions.

"The higher qualifications of doctors and better professionalism, in turn, are expected to encourage an increase in the quality of health services," said Zulkarnaen. To create this synergy, he said, AIPKI Region I, which consists of 17 FKs spread from Aceh to Batam, held a coordination meeting involving the active role of related stakeholders.

Meanwhile, the Dean of FK Unpri, dr. H. Yulitas Bachtiar, Sp.A, added that the purpose of this activity is to increase the role of medical education institutions, professional organizations and local governments in the synergy of implementing ideas and policy strategies in supporting the improvement of the quality of primary health services in Indonesia
